In today's quick paced world of having a family and a career as well as trying to fit in those pesky things on your to do list, it's no wonder that people become overly stressed. Unfortunately, many people are so busy that they often times fail to recognize the toll that stress is having on them. If you're not sure if stress is affecting you, read these signs of stress to see if you have any of these things happen to you frequently. The results of chronic stress Stress that goes un-noticed can have severe consequences on your mental as well as your physical well being. Chronic stress has been known to cause many ailments as well as depression or anxiety. Knowing what subtle signs to look for can assist you in determining whether or not yOu just had a bad day or whether or not your stress is a more serious problem. Signs that you are overly stressed Irritability- Do you find that you are more irritable than normal? Do you find yourself getting upset at the smallest things or about things that you wouldn't have gotten upset about before? You find yourself holding your breath- This can be a physiological reaction to stress. If you find yourself doing this frequently ask yourself what is causing you stress at the moment. Just being aware that you are doing this can assist you in being aware of your stress level. chronic headaches/Migraines- Have you recently begun to get headaches on a regular basis? While there may be several reasons for this, it may be due to increased stress. Are you are more emotional than normal? If you find yourself getting more upset than you normally would stress may be a contributing factor. Ruling out something that is emotionally upsetting aside, if you find yourself crying for no apparent reason or getting emotonal over simple things it could be stress. You clench your jaw- Many times when people are under a lot of stress or are extremely upset about something they find themselves clenching their jaw. This often times can be accompanied with holding your breath. If this becomes something that you find yourself doing frequently it may be due to stress. Trouble sleeping- Difficulties with sleep are often contributed to your mind working "overtime". In other words ou may be spending the hours you should be sleeping mulling over your worries. This is a definite sign that you are over stressed. Increased blood pressue (hypertention)- Blood pressure is a tell tell physical sign that something is going on with you. It may be due to being nervous about something, being over worked or over stressed. Trouble concentrating- This can be indicitive that your mind is over loaded and that you hve to much on your plate. This can be either in actuality or emotionally. When something has your stressed out, that often takes presedence over everything else and as a result can make it difficult to concentrate on anything else. Heart palpitations/ irregular heart beat- As with increased blood pressure a change in the way your heart is beating or heart palpitations can be due to an increase in your stress level. Make sure to check with your doctor immediately if you notice anything irregular about your heart beats. Change in eating habits (eating more or less than usual)- If you find that you are suddenly overeating or undereating this may also cause wieght gain or a loss in weight. Our emotions have a lot to do with how we eat and if you eat when you are stressed you are an emotional eater. To the contrary many people get upset stomachs when they are stressed and therefore tend not to eat as much. Either way, both are signs that you are overly stressed. If you find that any of these signs sound like you then you are probably overly stressed. We all experience stress in our lives from time to time, however having continual stress on an ongoing basis can be very damaging. If you find that you are overly stressed, knowing how to cope with your stress can be the key to eliminating it altogether and getting to a healthier you!
