Many of us will know what it’s like to experience the sense of frustration that goes with trying to attain certain goals but seeing no light at the end of the tunnel. It is then that some of us do the one thing that will stop us dead in our tracks...we sabotage ourselves. When the dotcom bubble burst there were suddenly thousands of well qualified people who could not get a job for love nor money. The market had completely seized up. In response to this a whole host of networks and groups were set up for the out-of-work and from within these groups it became clear that there was one shared struggle – the struggle to stay positive under the stress. The small business owner is no stranger to this kind of struggle. All the time, money and sheer hard work invested into your venture, as well as the amount you have borrowed, mean that that you are impatient for results and sometimes these do not come soon enough. It is important to stay positive in these circumstances and in order to stay on track it is vital these 5 common errors: Lacking self belief If you constantly tell yourself that you can’t achieve your goals, then you won’t. Self belief is vitally important it is the number one support tool we have to achieve our goals. Changing your belief system is the number one step towards achieving your business goals. If you believe you can, you will. Lacking vision One of the biggest hindrances to entrepreneurial success is lack of vision. Just as you wouldn’t set out on a car journey without planning your route and knowing where you want to eventually end up, you should not set out on a business path without a vision of where you want to eventually be and the steps required in order to achieve this goal. If you have a fuzzy vision or even no vision at all about where you are going you are unlikely to succeed. Take the time to visualise your future and map it out and don’t let limited beliefs get in your way. Fearing the unknown A child might be scared of jumping into a lake because they cannot see what is underneath the dark pool of liquid. In the same way, some entrepreneurs are hindered by a fear of jumping into the unknown. It is important to overcome this fear in order not to hinder your success.rnIf the child took the plunge and jumped into the lake, they would find that not only is there nothing to fear but also that it is and exhilarating experience. Similarly, small business owners should not fear taking the necessary risks along the path to success and will find it a thrilling experience. Dealing with negativity While many of us are lucky to have 100% support from the people close to us, others are not so fortunate. If you do have negative feedback from a family member or friend who is not supportive of your business decisions it is important to realise that you cannot change this. What is vital in such cases is how you deal with the negativity. If somebody close to you is unsupportive of your business, simply do not discuss it with them. Your time would be much more usefully spent discussing the business with people with people you know will give you the support that you need. Fearing success The truth is that fear of success can be as damaging as fear of failure. Many feel threatened by the challenges and responsibilities that come with success and fear that they will not be able to live up to their achievements. They lack the confidence in themselves to think that they are able enough to sustain the success. Fear of success can stifle many entrepreneurs. These people must ask themselves one simple question, would you rather let fear of success and what goes along with it cripple you or would you rather attract opportunities that are perfect for you. The choice is yours.
