When it comes to the development of standard websites, additional attention ought to be given to every slight feature to ensure it performs optimally to serve its purposes. There are a lot of factors to be considers but I have listed only 5 rules which I believe must be followed to ensure web standards are retained to facilitate its performance. Splash pages should be avoided Splash pages are the initial web page you see when you enter a site. They are commonly used to capture the user's attention for a short time as a promotion or lead-in to the site home page. They normally have nice images or graphics with words like click here to enter or enter site here.rnIn fact, they are just that -- pretty vases with no real purpose. Do not let your visitors have a reason to click on the "back" button! Give them the value of your site up front without the splash page. Avoid excessive use of banner ads. Even the least net savvy people have trained themselves to disregard banner ads so you will be wasting valuable time. Alternatively, provide more valuable content & weave relevant affiliate links in to your content, and let your visitors feel that they need to buy instead of being pressed to buy. Keep navigation easy and clear Graphic images, such as buttons or tabs, should be clearly labeled and easy to read. You or your graphic designer should select the colors, backgrounds, textures, and special effects to be used on your web very carefully. It is more important that your navigational buttons and tabs be easy to read and understand than to have "flashy" effects. All of your hyperlinks should be clear to your visitors.rnLink colors in your text should be familiar to your visitor (blue text usually indicates an unvisited link and purple or maroon text usually indicates a visited link), if possible. If you choose not to use the default colors, your text links should be emphasized in some other way (boldfaced, a larger font size, set between small vertical lines, or a combination of these). Text links should be unique -- they should not look the same as any other text in your web pages. You do not want people clicking on your headings because they think the headings are links.rnYour visitors should be able to find what they are looking for in your site within three clicks. If not, they are very likely to click off your site as quickly as they clicked on. Yes, just a bang of the mouse, they are out and will likely not come back again. Avoid the use of audio If your visitor is going to stay a long time at your site, reading your content, you will want to make sure they're not irritated by some audio looping on and on your site. If you persist on adding audio, make sure they have some control over it -- volume or muting controls would be just fine. Plain indication of where end users are should be maintained When visitors are deeply engaged in browsing your site, you will want to make sure they know which part of the site they are in at that moment. That way, they will be able to browse significant information or navigate to any section of the site easily. Don't confuse your visitors, make life easy for them.
