Wouldn’t it be great if we could do it all? Imagine never having to think about having the time or resources necessary to do a project because you had all the time and resources in the world. Wishful thinking huh?
The truth is that you don’t have infinite access to time or resources. There are things that you might like to do that will be left undone.
To make sure that what you value the most gets done it’s important not only to set clear goals but to strategically pick the goals that you want to accomplish and create a plan to accomplish them.
In order to do this, when I work with my private clients one of the exercises we often do is a brain dump. First we create a list with every goal my client can think of, and then we apply the 5-CarrieThru Keys to Creating Goals to them in order to make sure that we pick the most important goals and make them happen.
Give it a try.
Key 1: As you create your list of goals include the reason you want to accomplish each one. The clearer you are on why you want to do it the better you’ll be able to specify exactly what your goal is.
Key 2: Review the list you created and identify the one or two goals that are the most important to you. Ask yourself; if there was only one or two things on this list that I can do, which are going to have the biggest effect for me, my business and my clients?
Key 3: What does having that goal completed mean. How far do you need to take it? (Remember your goal is for it to be done, not perfect, follow this link to learn more about this: http://carriethru.com/index.php/good-newsbad-n%E2%80%A6it-can-be-done/)
Key 4:What specific steps to you need to reach that goal? What support do you need? What don’t you need to do?
Key 5: Identify when you will take these steps and put time on the calendar to do them. Remember, it’s not just about creating deadlines but also making time to do the steps.
When you understand exactly what your goal is and how you are going to reach it, it becomes much easier for you to achieve it.
What is your top goal? Share it with me on my blog (http://carriethru.com/index.php/5-keys-to-successful-goal-setting/) and together we’ll make it happen!
