8 Feng Shui ways to help our planet…..nn1. Start a garden, the positive energy it creates is enormous…. Not only because of the healthy energy it gives your family when you eat its’ bounty, but that growing, fruitful energy is good for the whole neighborhood. Plus, it will save you money and you won’t have to worry about eating fresh spinach…. Add to that the savings in energy used to ship food - and you will be using less plastic grocery bags (which you’re recycling anyway, right?) Flower gardens are also great Feng Shui.nn2. If it doesn’t smell and it’s not dirty, don’t wash it…. If you’re like me, (and I hope you’re not) you may sometimes step out of your jeans and leave them looking like an accordion, and you may say to yourself, “Well, these are perfectly clean and I could iron them, or I could just toss them in the dirty clothes…..which is easier?... Duh!” Think of how many loads of laundry you could save and the energy that goes with it if you only wash items that truly need to be washed.nn3. Quit Showering so much….which kind of goes back to “if it doesn’t smell and it’s not dirty, don’t wash it. Dermatologists agree that so many Americans skin problems are actually caused by over showering. If you don’t break a sweat, you don’t need a shower. Just wash your privates with a washcloth. The natural oils of your skin protect it and make your skin look younger… your skin will thank you and so will your water bill.nn4. De-junkify…..I had a friend who had so much stuff it would take her weeks to find anything. Brand new stuff. She would look and look and look for items that she needed but could never find them and always have to go buy the same item again. If it takes two weeks to find something, are you willing to give two weeks of your time to find a material object? In feng shui, new things won’t come into your life unless you make room for them. n5. Getting eco-friendly or Do I really need all these shoes….? We as Americans have been raised in a country that promotes waste on an enormous level. Americans constitute 5% of the world's population but consumes 25 % of the world's energy. On average, one American consumes as much energy as 2 Japanese, 6 Mexicans, 13 Chinese, 31 Indians, 128 Bangladeshis, 307 Tanzanians, or 370 Ethiopians. We need to really step up as a nation. The Native American Indian, a great “Feng Shui” group of people, revered the earth. Every part of the deer was used, and they never took anything for granted. They would stand over a deer they killed and say, “Thank you brother dear for giving your life to feed my family”…and then use every part of that deer to make the most of the deer’s sacrifice. Gratitude is great feng shui.n6. Don’t buy into the marketing machine….you will probably hear that we are a consumer driven economy and if we don’t consume like maniacs we will suffer, blah blah blah. Give our amazing entrepreneurial spirit some credit. We adapt like crazy. You will just see more things like the water-powered alarm clock, etc… . Does what you need really have to be brand new? Ebay is the biggest recycling center on the planet.nn7. Push for more work at home….the information superhighway has made it easier than ever to be productive from our home. I’m typing this right now in my robe and, I must admit, I look awful, but my cat doesn’t care. Think of the energy and savings on gas. Think of the savings in laundry, eating out, make-up etc….nn8. Replace burned out light bulbs with energy efficient ones….nIf every household in the U.S. replaced just ONE incandescent light bulb with an energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), it would eliminate the equivalent of the emissions created by one million cars. And that's only one bulb per household! Most homes have 15-30 bulbs. Also, you can start refilling your water bottle with tap water. Every report states that bottled water is no better than tap. Distribution and disposal of bottled water requires much more energy and fuel than tap water.nnFeng Shui is the art of arranging our environment to create the nmost harmonious flow of energy. Taking positive steps nto help our planet, attracts positive energy back, nand that is what feng shui is all about –n the flow of positive energy… nnPlease forward this to everyone….nNancy BidigarenOwner www.myfengshuistore.comn(If you buy up the items I already have on hand, I’ll buy only eco-friendly items from now on, I promise…)nIf you have more energy tips, email me nancybid@msn.com
