Just because it's cute and tiny, doesn't mean it should be allowed to get away with everything. A single look from this cuddly pooch can melt the heart of many adoring doggy owners, which can also lead to negligence on the part of the latter. Training should never ever be set aside, and this pet isn't an exception. Owning a spoiled dog can be a burden, and will make things harder for you and the Pug. Having it run around and entertaining everybody is nice, but once it lacks obedience it loses control. So as an owner of this breed or an interested potential buyer of it, you might wanna keep the things that have been stated and will be stated in mind. nnTraining a pug can start as early as a month and a half. This is the best time to start, because the root of all behavioral problems begins here. You should and must look out for any signs of unwanted behavior, and correct it while it's still correctable. “Smacking” the defect out of its head never works. It'll make the Pug fear you, but what you're really after at this stage is it to respect you. Using encouraging tactics and positive remarks during sessions is important for its development. When giving commands, use a tone of voice where it would be able to recognize your intentions immediately. nnIt's a matter of ingraining into its mind when you are serious, want it to do something, or disapprove of anything its doing. Don't use the same tone of voice for praising or reprimanding – this will cause confusion and it'll have a hard time understanding what exactly you're trying to say. You can give rewards for obeying commands, so that it will associate the reward with actions obedience and the word command related to it. Couple that with a compliment and it'll become a very effective method of training. Use “1 word” commands, so it'll have an easier time of connecting “a” to “b” to “c”. nnDaily routines of training should be consistent. As much as possible don't skip out on a set schedule, and don't delay anything – hold the sessions on the same time of the day everyday. The attention span of a Pug is not that long. If it were a human student it would flunk out of school on the first day. Therefore, training classes must be fun. You want to keep its attention on you, and nothing else. Having it learn somewhere where it will just be the two of you would help a lot. Keeping things that could possibly distract it such as the neighbors female Pug out of sight would be important. nnIt has the tendency to wander off and do something better. That said keep the sessions short but complete – intensity over duration. But don't overwork your pet, stressing it out too much makes things for it harder to learn. Above all, give it love and care. It ain't a robot slave built to obey your every command. Teaching it will take time, patience, and effort. To gain something good, you've got to make good. These are somethings you should keep in mind while training a Pug. By following the above stated tips, you'll be on your way to owning a very obedient dog.
