Anxiety is on the increase. The amount of people who suffer from panic attacks and anxiety disorders is growing by the day. For the longest time this condition was blown off as not that serious, but it is now recognized as a mental disorder and proper treatment and research is now revealing some startling facts about anxiety. This is a mental problem and it is created in your mind and it lives in your mind. The great irony is that for more than 2 decades doctors have been treating it with conventional medicine and even today the standard anxiety treatment is with antidepressants. Any antidepressant medication is designed to only suppress symptoms and can never provide a cure for anxiety. It really is like placing a band-aid on the problem. The real cure is usually achieved with therapy and there are quite a few types of therapies that's proven to work. Cognitive behavioral therapy is probably the most successful and focuses primarily on getting to the root cause of the problem. Although this is a very successful treatment, the new focus is shifting more towards alternative therapies. Meditation is hot. If you look at cultures all over there world that practice meditation as a way of life, then you will see that there are virtually no cases of anxiety. Why is this? Is it possible that this is a cure for anxiety? There are many theories as to why meditation is so effective to alleviate anxiety. Apart from all the physiological changes that occurs during meditation, the fact that your mind enters a different state is where research is focusing at the moment. When you are in this altered state of mind you're your can relief yourself of all the stress and tension that is attributed as the number one cause of anxiety. Thoughts and ideas that causes anxiety are not present during meditation and the mind returns to a state of pure being. In this state of mind there's no fear, no anxiety and nothing but a feeling of bliss. By practicing meditation on a daily basis this can start to affect your life in very positive ways. Eventually it can help you to get rid of anxiety altogether.
