Workers compensation insurance is a very hot topic and in many countries unions have waged war over the issue. For many workers in high risk jobs, the danger and the potential consequences of getting injured at work is a very real and present danger every day of their lives. Before compensation insurance was introduced, employers had virtually no responsibility towards injured staff, but that's all changed now. The labor laws are almost exclusively designed to protect employers. As if that's not enough, unions are there to fight for every last right that employees are entitled to and often times business owners and employers are being short changed and even picked on. In today's business environment you simply cannot afford to go without insurance. From a personal point of view we insure our homes, our cars and even our lives. If you run a business and your staff are in any potentially dangerous situations you need to take out workers compensation insurance. Why? Well, if you don't have it and you need it, it can cost you and even cost you your entire business. If anyone in your employment gets injured during the course of carrying out their work duties you are likely to be held responsible for it financially. The repercussions are immense since you may even be liable to pay medical expenses and loss of earnings which can be a huge expense to any business. Money aside, as an employer you need to be responsible. By law you have responsibilities to create a safe working environment and more than anything it will encourage you to keep safety a number one priority. If you consider the potential consequences of not having it, then you simply cannot afford not to have workers compensation insurance.
