So Many Choices - What To Select?
Look at all the alternatives! When it comes to baby gear, strollers are definitely found in a very big variety of shapes, size, options and benefits. When narrowing down your ideal baby stroller, first think about the sort of baby transportation you need.
Maybe you have got in mind something to move baby and all that equipment along the lines of a traditional stroller. It may be wise that having more than one stroller might be your best bet. One stroller for everyday use and a light-weight stroller for traveling.
We'll take a look at some basic models to choose from. As previously alluded to, there really isn't any end to the numerous features - and price tags - for baby strollers out there these days!
Seat-Carrier Frame Strollers
Seat carrier models are designed for newborns who can't sit up on their own yet. Because of that, this type of model does not have an adjustable seat. Actually, there’s no seat! It lays flat and made to transport a newborn car seat for any strolling you wish to do. No waking up the baby, simply transport the car seat directly to the stroller and off you go!
rnCombo Strollers
"Combos" - are a carriage and stroller in one. This kind of baby gear can be used with a brand new infant. They are designed to hold your baby laying prone in either a bassinet or an infant car seat.
In theory, you can use this type of stroller right from birth up through the toddler years. (It supports around 40 lbs). As the baby gets older, you'll be able to use the adjustable seat attachment for just the right sitting configuration. These strollers can get rather expensive though costing up to $900. But for this price you get plenty of choices such as additional storage space for extra baby gear and large canopies for protection from the sun and rain.
rnTravel System Strollers
For traveling, these units are nice! Babies who aren’t capable of sitting up can be conveniently moved right in their car seat, that securely fastens to the stroller. When it’s time to return to the automobile, just lift the seat off the stroller and snap it into the car’s safety belt system. Very convenient!
rnOld School CarriagesrnThese ‘old school’ types of strollers are still in use today. They typically have spoked wheels and lots of space for baby and all that baby gear. These buggies are great for newborns and some carriages have removable 'carrying cots'.
The bad news is that carriages are fairly large, cumbersome and not overly maneuverable. They are particularly awkward to use in crowed city settings where you will encounter quite a few obstacles to contend with. Still, if ‘old fashion’ is your preference, these units are big and roomy and provide a bit nostalgia for the past.
Traditional Baby Strollers
Strollers tabbed as 'traditional' run the gamut of wide range of features and options. Traditional strollers vary from lightweight models all the way to massive, industrial-strength designs.
The 'Hercules' models are built extra tough with cavernous storage space and lots of room. They have engineered shock absorbers on all 4 wheels and are made to withstand plenty of punishment. Needless to say they're bulky. Yes, they are sturdy and stable, but rather massive.
There are several options found in traditional strollers such as snack trays, lots of storage space, 1-handed folding capabilities, and adjustable seating. These are really all-in-one models and might be designed to accommodate bassinets and car seats. But they do have a tendency to be a tad on the heavy side so traveling with them is more of a task.
Umbrella Strollers
The handles on these strollers look like an umbrella, hence the name. Umbrella strollers are very lightweight and truly convenient for traveling. Most models fold simply but the ride can be a little bit rough (depending on the terrain). Umbrellas make an excellent 2nd stroller and the cost is very reasonable.
rnAll-Terrain Strollers
While on the topic of terrain, we tend to enjoy taking our babies EVERYWHERE we tend to go! And that includes off road. This is where an all-terrain stroller comes in handy.
These strollers are heavy duty and can take the punishment thanks to oversized bicycle-like tires. And yes, they're inflatable! Plus there are only three of them. Riding on air smooths out those bumpy ‘off road’ treks. Plus they are capable of handling heavier loads so it makes them ideal for ‘larger’ babies and also when you’re hauling around additional baby gear.
Jogging strollers
Since we include our babies in many of our activities, we require a stroller that is as mobile as we are. You can find strollers specially made for active parents who want to bring along their children with them on their runs.
A stroller made for jogging is a 3-wheeled apparatus with giant, air-inflated tires. Jogging strollers have extra long handles which positions the stroller a bit further in front of the runner so running legs have ample space to run and not be hindered by the stroller frame.
Safety options on this type of stroller include a front brake and a wrist strap so everything stays in control at all times. This being extremely important. Their tough design enables the stroller to travel cross-country just like an all-terrain stroller.
There are a number of baby stroller features to fit in with your personal lifestyle. From traditional carriages, all-in-one travel units, lightweight umbrella strollers and industrial-strength baby strollers for very mobile families, you’re sure to find the proper baby stroller to complement your individual preference and baby transportation needs.
