Creating the Ultimate Indoor Easter Egg Hunt

Easter is a great time of year to celebrate, and what better way to get the whole family involved than by setting up a memorable Easter egg hunt? However, it is not a time of year noted for its reliable weather, and so it's worth putting the effort into creating a special indoor event. At PartyWorld, we are egg-sperts in making your celebrations spectacular. Here is our guide to creating the ultimate indoor Easter egg hunt...
1.What You'll Need
- Fillable eggs in a selection of sizes
- A grand prize - which you will make sure is in the best hiding spot.
- Treats to fill your eggs with - think smaller chocolates such as mini-eggs and chocolate bunnies. You could even include small toys that connect to the season with themes of spring.
2. Setting Up the Hunt
Rather than the usual free-for-all, why not create more of a treasure hunt? We would recommend that you carefully write clues, leading from one egg to the next. Your searchers will have to work together to solve a clue that will help them find the next egg, which will in turn contain the next clue. In this way, the fun of the hunt is likely to last longer, and you will be able to make sure that everyone is included (rather than one or two more able searchers cleaning up all the chocolate before the littler members of the party get a chance!)
3. Set Your Boundaries
It's easy for chaos to ensue, but you can limit the madness by setting a clear boundaries for your hunt. Perhaps it will be limited to the downstairs of the house; perhaps, for safety reasons, the kitchen will be out of bounds. However, remember, the smaller the space you choose to use, the more innovative you need to be with your hiding places!
4. Where to Hide the Eggs?
You will need to cater your hunt to the ages and abilities of the children hunting. Smaller children will struggle with anything too high up; while older children might find the hunt too easy unless you get innovative! Here are some hiding place ideas:
Hiding Places Suitable for Younger Children:
- Behind sofa cushions
- Behind the curtains / on windowsills
- On mantelpieces
- On bookshelves
- In lower areas, such as behind table legs
Hiding Places Suitable for Older Children:
- Inside cupboards
- Higher up, for instance balanced on the edge of wall hung photo frames.
- Inside hi-fi speakers!
- Inside multiple items, for instance, inside a cup which is inside a cupboard - this level of complication will lend itself well to written clues.
5. Making the Hunt Fair
If you are catering to a range of ages, it might be wise to ask the children to work as a team, so that everyone gets a look in. Or perhaps you will colour code the eggs, so that more able searchers just look for eggs of their own colour, and slower searchers still have a chance. However, you choose to run your hunt, think of hiding around 10 eggs per child, to extend the fun and make sure there are plenty of chocolates to go around. Most importantly, have fun!
