What do you do when someone gives you a compliment? Do you smile, thank them with all your heart, and continue on with your day feeling a little better about yourself?n nOr maybe instead, you shrug. Or deny it. Or claim it’s a lie.n nMaybe you don’t say anything at all, but silently tell yourself that it’s not true. You say “They’re just trying to make me feel good”, “They want to get on my good side”, or even “I wonder what they want from me”.n nDid you ever stop and think, “Wow, someone just took a little bit of time out of their day to pay me a compliment”? They didn’t have to say anything. They could have easily nodded at you and continued on without a word.n nThat person obviously noticed something extraordinary about you and felt they needed to let you know exactly how wonderful you really are or how well you do something. They wanted to express the way they truly feel about you.n nWhat happens when you compliment someone and they blow you off? For example, what if one of your friends got a new haircut and you thought it took 10 years off? You tell them they look amazing, and they say “Yeah, right”. You protest that you really think it looks great, and they tell you to quit lying.n nDoes that make you ever want to compliment that person again? Does that make you see that person differently? When someone you admire blows off a comment without even the smallest shred of gratitude, do you still look up to them as much? Can you honestly still think they’re living life to its full npotential?n nBe fabulous. When someone pays you a compliment, let it soak in. Don’t boast, don’t become self centered, but know that the person you are or whatever you did was exceptional. Smile, say thank you, and whole-heartedly accept it.n nPraise is something one needs to earn. It is not given out to those who don’t deserve it. When you work hard at something, excel in some area, or strive to be a better person, you are worth it. Don’t deny yourself the satisfaction of a job well done. Be true. Be you. Be fabulous.nnJudith Sherven and Jim Sniechowski, producers nof the "Bridging Heart and Marketing" Internet nmarketing conferences for the soft sell community ninvite you to grow your business by getting their nbonus audio "How To Build Your Soft Sell Marketing nPlatform." While I was waiting for my dance class to start, I watched an instructor patiently coach a couple through what was obviously one of their first lessons. The instructor was having them do a “box step,” which is what it sounds like. A “box” made with your feet. It consists of two parts, a forward half box and a backward half box.
