The word Christmas has been derived from an early English phrase ‘Christes Masse’, which means Christmas Mass. Christmas day is celebrated as according to the bible this was the day when Jesus Christ was born. The bible story narrates the tale of three wise men and the shepherds followed the Star of Bethlehem to the stable where Jesus was born. The custom of exchanging gifts became prevalent after the story that the wise men and shepherds brought these gifts to the Christ child. rnHow the tradition of Christmas cards started? rnThe tradition of exchanging Christmas greeting card began from 1843 onwards. Henry Cole, an Englishman, hired artist John Calcott Horsley for designing cards on Christmas Eve. Horsley lithographed the cards on stiff cardboard. These cards were introduced that lead to the popularity of exchanging cards. In 1875, Americans also started creating their printed cards. Gradually the tradition of exchanging cards for Christmas became popular worldwide. The advent of Internet brought change in the way cards were created and designed. rnVarious ideas to make Christmas cards this season:rnThere are various ways and techniques to create beautiful and attractive cards for this Christmas Eve. You can create cards in a printed format or decorate an e-card. If you want to send a printed card there are various fun loving ideas to design the card. A person can fix a personal photograph of the recipient or any favorite picture. These photographs can portray the memorable times shared by you and the recipient during Christmas. One can use thick and good quality paper for the card. You can use different colors like paints, crayons and glitters to decorate the card. Using dried leaves and herbs for the cards is also a great idea. You can draw pictures of Santa, reindeer, Holy Star, angel, baby Jesus, Mother Mary on the front page of the card. The inside verses can include poems, quotes and sayings. You can envelope the card with exotic perfumes. In case of sending e-cards, you can use animation, sound effects to create impressive cards. Animation makes the card interactive for the viewer. These elements help you in embellishing your card and making it memorable.
