Many people who want to lose weight will ask themselves the question do I need to exercise to lose weight. This is a common question and the answer to that is relatively simple. Exercise is part of an overall plan to help someone lose weight. It is necessary along with proper diet and nutrition. Without exercise your body cannot maximize its calorie burning potential. If you are only incorporating part of an overall plan to achieve your weight loss goals then you are short changing yourself. Reaching your weight loss goals will become more difficult.
Proper diet and nutrition is part of the overall system to lose weight. If you focus on eating the right foods at the right times of day you will fuel your body with the nutrients necessary to provide adequate energy to get through the days activities. Your body will require a certain number of calories simply to function normally. This is called your resting metabolic rate. Consuming an adequate number of calories to achieve your resting metabolic rate in the end will help you efficiently burn calories to lose weight. The reason for this is if your body is struggling to find fuel to function it will begin to burn calories from needed stores for energy such as reducing your muscle mass. You want to accomplish getting your body to the point where it has enough energy stores that it will burn calories from body fat vs. muscle mass.
This is where performing exercises comes into play. Performing exercises has a number of benefits to your health and overall appearance. Performing exercises will ultimately help increase your tone and build muscle mass depending on the type of exercise that you do. As you diet and exercise and ultimately lose bodyfat you want to have adequate tone and mass to achieve that fit and toned look. Your muscles will only respond to the actions that you put them through. Meaning if you are sitting the majority of your day or you are not taxing your muscles to help them grow then they will stay in the state that they are in. If this happens and you are losing bodyfat you may still have a soft or flabby appearance because your muscles lack tone and firmness.
Do you need to exercise to lose weight? Absolutely. Combined with proper diet and nutrition it is the most effective combination to achieve your body fat and weight loss goals.
