Do you criticize yourself? Do you say mean and disrespectful things to you? Do you look at yourself and think nasty things about who and what you are?

STOP IT! Stop talking to yourself in a negative voice. And, stop talking to others about your negative traits. The more you concentrate on what’s wrong with you, the more what’s wrong with you will hang on, and sometimes, even multiply. What we put our attention to is what multiplies in our lives.

So, instead of criticizing yourself, look for things you like about you. Make a list of these things and post it where you can see it often. In fact, post several copies of the list in conspicuous places. It’s important for you to remind yourself that you have some really good traits.

If there is something you truly don’t like about yourself, change it! Don’t whine about it. People don’t want to be around someone who puts herself down, has a negative attitude, and whines. People who do those things are not fun. In fact, in most cases, they are damn hard work. And most of the things you criticize yourself for, other people don’t even care about. Most of us don’t pick our friends because they are the perfect weight, or have the right hairstyle, or live in the right part of town. We pick friends because we like them…their values, their attitudes, their characteristics, and because of how they make us feel when we are with them.

And most of the things you think are wrong with you, I wouldn’t have even noticed, if you hadn’t pointed them out to me. How can you enjoy your life if you keep focusing on what’s wrong with you?
