What are your goals in life? What do you hope to achieve in the future? Let us take an example. Let us say that your goal is to lose weight and live a healthy life. This is a goal that you would like to attain, therefore let us determine what habits you should have that will work towards achieving this goal. In turn, you should also determine what habits do you think you should avoid that will hinder you from achieving this goal?
An example of a good habit that you may have that will help you towards losing weight and living a healthy life is drinking water. You have a habit of drinking 8 glasses of water per day. Now that is healthy living! Numerous studies show that drinking 8 glasses of water each day improves your health and at the same time help you lose weight. This habit of drinking water will then help you reach your goal. It is like stepping on the gas accelerator of your car that will make you move forward to reaching your goal.
Now let us say that instead of drinking water you love to drink soda. You have soda with each meal you take and you rarely drink water. Now this is a bad habit that you should avoid and will only prevent you from reaching your goals.
Drinking soda will not help you lose weight and will certainly not help you live a healthy life. If drinking water is stepping on the gas accelerator of your car then drinking soda is stepping on the brakes because it will put a stop and an end to your losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle.
Let us take a look. You now have two opposing forces one is the force that has your foot on the gas which is your conscious desire to lose weight and get in shape while the other force which has your foot on the brakes is your habit of drinking soda in place of water. These forces are on opposite ends.
Now which force of habit do you believe is going to over power the other? Which habit do you think will win over the other?
