Let's face it folks, when it comes to our monthly income, we usually don't have much spending money left over after we take out all of our bills. In fact, some of us are spending more money than we should be and wind up getting ourselves into trouble. When you think about it, setting up a budget is a wise thing to do, it helps to keep couples and individuals alike, on track with how they are handling their money. So, one of the biggest questions I'm asked on a daily basis, how do you save money when you don't have much coming in that isn't going to bills? I simply respond, you make some of your bigger bills, smaller, then I get a blank stare as if what I'm saying was gibberish. When you think about it, some of your largest bills, can actually be decreased in the amount of which you're paying. To give you an idea of what I mean, some of our largest bills usually include car insurance, home insurance, cell phones, electricity, house payment, and car payments. Now, two of those we cannot really do anything about, those two being car payments and home payments. However, the others can usually be played with to get the prices to come down, no matter how small that amount is. For instance, your cell phone bill, many of us have smart phones, which require a data usage plan which causes our bill to cost more. Others also have unlimited text messaging or calling, which can add upwards of twenty five dollars on to our bill. What about electricity? How often have you looked at your monthly bill and wondered why it has gone up? There are many small ideas which can be implemented around the home when it comes to saving on electricity usage. One, turn out all lights when they are not being used, many households over look this rule on a daily basis. Two, turn off all appliances which are not being used, including computers. Three, set your household thermostat to a level in which it does not turn on quite as often, thereby saving you money. Four, limit the time that you spend taking hot baths or showers, each time the hot water turns on it begins adding to your electricity usage. Five, this does not necessarily have to be implemented, but it something I like to practice in my own home. When there are many appliances plugged into one outlet, try keeping them on a surge protector and turning off the strip when not using it. To begin wrapping this up, the last subject I will touch on is how to possibly save you money on your car insurance premium each month. I've been watching television lately and seen that many insurers offer incentives to good drivers, such as reduced rates. Well, I haven''t seen my rate drop but about five dollars from last year to this year and this somewhat upsets me. So I decided to do something about it and check to be sure my rate is at a good level. The short and simple way to do this is by going online to a site, such as Progressive and getting a free rate quote. Once you've received your quote, you can have it compared to other local companies in your area, which will end up showing you, how close to the competition your rate is. I found that I could knock about twenty dollars off my bill each month, by switching to a different insurer, it is quite possible you could too. To summarize everything we've discussed in this article, saving money is very important in our lives. However, sometimes our bills cost so much, that we don't have any extra funds to save up and deposit into our bank accounts. There were a few bills which were brought up that could possibly be decreased, to give us that extra cash at the end of the month. The most important thing to take away from this article is, don't add unnecessary costs to your bills, unless they are absolutely necessary.
