Fly Your Kite

Have you ever watched a kite? They soar in the stratosphere - free, unencumbered, dancing and twirling in the wind.
However, kites don't fly all by themselves. They need help.
Who is on the other end of the string?
A pilot. A solid anchor connected to the earth.
If the kite didn't have the anchor, it wouldn't be able to fly well. It would drift off and eventually crash on the ground.
Here's my analogy:
·Dreams are like kites.
They soar up high and dance in the wind. They are light and free.
·Dreams need anchors.
They must have ground control; foundations, structures, and values from which they are formed and actualized. Without these, the dreams are but vapor and wouldn't be able to sustain themselves...eventually drifting off...
As much as we need to soar, we also need to be grounded. This tension works together to create successful action.
Have you made New Year's resolutions (dreams, visions, and goals) at the beginning of the year only to find that they drifted off and disappeared by the end of the year, if not much sooner? Not much to celebrate on the 31st.
What would make it different this year? How could you pilot those dreams into reality?
As they say, "If you do the same thing the same way, you'll get the same result."
So if you want something different you've got to...what?...yep, do something different.
In coaching we use the term anchor as a method of helping people stay in their commitments.
These anchors can be reminder notes, rubberbands around the wrist, having a personal trainer when you work out, hiring a life coach, enrolling in a class, creating a daily planning habit.
These structures support us to complete the cycle from dreaming to actualizing.
What do you want to realize this new year...in your home, your body, your relationships, your character, your finances?
You can't change everything at once, but you can certainly do something. You can start one step at a time on the path toward your dreams and goals.
Can you imagine getting to the end of the year and reviewing the wonderful accomplishments you made? Can you see yourself completing, growing, being grateful, and having a true celebration?
What will it take?
Let's learn to fly our kites.
May we find the structures and support necessary to ensure our success all the way through to the end of the year.
