There are three main types of diabetes. The third type, Gestational Diabetes, is the kind of that affects pregnant women. It is estimated that 4% of all pregnant women have this type of diabetes and a third of them are not even aware that they have it.

This type of diabetes is dangerous to the mother and the baby. It is essential for it to be diagnosed early on.

As most of symptoms of diabetes do not manifest in pregnant women so regular, check-ups should be done during the 5th and 6th month of pregnancy. However, there are seven known symptoms of diabetes that still relevant to pregnant women.

One of the symptoms of diabetes in pregnant women is tiredness and fatigue. This may just be one of the pregnancy effects, but if it occurs along with other symptoms of diabetes such as increased thirst and having a blurred vision, it could mean more.

Other symptoms of diabetes are the need to urinate more frequently than usual, vomiting and nausea. Once more, these are still among the potential effects of pregnancy but also pose a sign for diabetes.

Pregnant women could also get an appetite boost during their pregnancy and they could have infections in their skin, bladder and vagina. The increase in appetite is yet another warning signal of pregnancy but the frequent infections is usually known as one of the symptoms of diabetes.

Usually, Gestational Diabetes disappears after delivery. whereas the symptoms of diabetes continues to appear even after giving birth, there may be some problem so there might still be a need for follow-up consultations with the doctor.
