If you want to get more, you just gotta give more. The more I give, the more I realize that giving is a wonderful karmic boomerang that loops right back to where it came from. This principle, I believe, applies to energy as well. If you want more good energy in your life, you must maximize your energy-giving potential. 1. Give energy to the people you live with. Do a chore you don't like that you usually passive-aggressively pass on for your cleaner roommate / significant other / family member to deal with (guilty as charged). Confronting your avoidance of scrubbing the bathtub or the toilet will energize you to confront bigger battles—like writing that novel or applying to law school. 2. Give energy to a friend or family. Send someone a letter, card or care package. Brighten the day of a loved one who doesn’t live close to you. Long-distance energy giving is the best! 3. Give energy to service workers. Thank your bus driver. I'm a big fan of this one. Make friendly chitchat with a downtrodden cashier. Be the warm exception to the apathetic rule. 4. Give energy to your community. Actually be aware of local politics that affect your city or town. (I’m guilty of not following this one. I will commit to getting informed in the next election!) Set an example for your fellow citizens. Combat voter apathy one individual at a time. 5. Give energy to someone through the internet. Considering how much many of us use the internet so much, why not? I don’t know about you, but I used to NEVER comment or email bloggers I encountered throughout all my internet surfing. These days, I like to drop a quick email or a comment to bloggers I really, really like as a way of showing appreciation and motivating them to continue sharing their free, high-quality content with their audience. It’s a simple gesture of positive energy that’s very easy to do. 6. Give energy to the planet by using less of the planet’s energy. That is, use less electricity, gasoline and other natural resources. The planet needs you to walk more, bike more and recycle more so it can give more energy back to you in the form of unpolluted oceans, beautiful nature and bountiful crops.
