Crystal healing and new age crystal therapy are not novel methods -- there are indications that these types of healing techniques have been used in many different ancient civilizations. Some people say that the use of crystals in meditation and healing has been known even during the time of the mystical continent of Atlantis. Today, the new age movement has rediscovered this ancient practice and in the last couple of decades we witness how an ever increasing number of individuals is taking interest in using crystals, semi precious and precious stones for metaphysical purposes. Every stone is, in a sense, a metaphysical stone. But there are some of them which are more convenient and better suited for crystal healing. At the beginning we should realize that stones are not just dead matter, they indeed possess some sort of consciousness, although this consciousness is very different from the ordinary conception of life and consciousness. What makes the metaphysical stones so important is their vibration. For example, with crystals, we know that they have ordered structure which in turn leads to ordered, constant, and steady properties, such as vibration or interaction with light. These vibrations can be utilized by knowing how to cleanse, charge and program the spiritual and metaphysical stones, and indeed their beneficial vibration can be used for many purposes including healing and crystal therapy. Meditation is another area where semi precious stones and crystals can be very useful. By doing proper crystal meditation, we can free ourselves from negative energy, we can cleanse our aura, balance our chakras and increase the level of our consciousness. Negative thoughts, emotions and energies can be successfully purified this way. Knowing how to select crystals and new age metaphysical stones is very important. In order to be able to serve their purpose, they need to be as transparent as possible, without flaws and defects. Different colors are fine, and they all can contribute to certain healing attributes or certain areas of the body where they are most effective. Amongst the most popular stones used in crystal therapy we can mention the quartz stone, that is, rock crystal, amethyst, citrine, moonstone, tourmalline, sapphire, phenakite, agate, jasper and hematite.
