Energy healing sessions can help to heal emotional wounds. After a session, a person maysometimes feel renewed and at peace, and at other times feel unsettled and uneasy. Both outcomes are perfectly fine:The release of emotions—whatever they are—is a natural and intrinsic part of the energy healing process.

Emotions should never be qualified as good or bad. However, especially in our Western culture, we are taught from an early age that emotions are “bad” and we learn to suppress them.

This is what often happens for many of us: We do not allow ourselves to feel deeply, to be honest with ourselves about what we feel and why we feel certain ways. Instead we ignore and abandon our feelings, and we go on, pretending and believing we are brave and strong. This is considered in our Western culture as a sign of “noble” behaviour and encouraged from early childhood both at home and at school.

But nothing could be further from the truth: As the saying goes, “Healing requires feeling.” When we judge, push away, or simply forbid ourselves from feeling our emotions, they stay “remembered” in the tissues of our bodies. Sooner or later they eventually manifest as physical symptoms or “dis-ease,” triggering the very same feelings we have tried to ignore.

Unpleasant physical manifestations such as anxiety are often mistaken for emotions themselves. Rather, they are a result of repressing emotions such as fear or anger. When you feel anxiety or irritation, rather than act on these feelings, ask yourself first: “What is the emotio I am supressing?” and then further restate the feeling of the emotion to yourself. Something as simple as acknowledging “I feel angry” can help to dissipate negative connotations of the emotion.

Various traditional healing schools teach that the repression of emotions is not only mentally taxing, but also takes a toll on the physical self as well. Emotional repression creates energy blockages in the associated organ in the body, which slows down circulation and leads to toxic build-up. Energy healing helps to clear these blockages and as they start to clear, it can often result in the release of pent-up emotions.

There is no better time than the present moment to start! Right now, go inside and check-in with yourself. Ask yourself, “How am I feeling?” “What is it I am feeling?” Learning to feel our emotions and feeling them fully brings us healing. A beneficial side-effect of such energy practice is to bring to the surface those emotions trapped in the tissues of our bodies. This is why we may become emotional during a session—often it is all that is needed for our healing to start.
