We live in a society that discourages us from prioritising our mental and even physical well-being. You may find that you are encouraged to work an 80-hour week, and that sometimes you need to function on 4 hours of sleep. At times you might feel as though you are beyond exhausted, but you need to keep pushing on if you want to keep your job. This can have a detrimental impact on your mental and your physical health, but there are things that you can do to try and help yourself in this situation.

You are Constantly Sick

If you feel as though you catch every cold or even flu out there, this is often because your immune system just isn’t up to the task of actually fighting off the illness. You may find that your immune system becomes weakened for a number of reasons, and this includes stress, an unhealthy diet or even a poor exercise regimen. A weak immune system doesn’t mean that you are going to catch every single bug out there, but it does mean that you are going to take way longer to recover if you do end up falling unwell.

You Can't Remember the Last Time you Visited a Healthcare Professional

Remember when your parents used to make all of your dentist and doctor appointments for you? There’s a good reason why they did. Now you’re an adult, you need to make sure that you keep up with them. Ideally you need to be making around one appointment a year, so that you can catch any health conditions before they become too serious.

Visiting the optometrist is also vital, and should be done every two years. If you don’t then you may find that your eyesight deteriorates over time. If you catch the issue soon enough though, then you might be able to get some glasses which stop your vision from worsening. It may be that you need to get some prescription sunglasses as well, so make sure that you ask about this if you can.

And lastly, you need to visit the dentist for a clean-up every 6 months. Signs that you need to make a visit include having bad breath, tooth pain or even discolouration. Check-ups could also help you to prevent fillings and treatment at a later date, so make sure that you keep on booking those routine appointments.

You’re Constantly Tired

There are so many reasons why you might feel as though you are constantly tired. It may be because you suffer from insomnia or if you have a schedule which does not allow you to have enough sleep. Either way, you need to do everything you can to address the source of the issue. Getting enough sleep is the main cornerstone when it comes to self-care, so make a conscious effort to try and make sure that lack of sleep is not impacting your lifestyle overall. If you are getting enough sleep, then you may be absolutely baffled as to why you are always tired. If this is the case, then it may be worth trying to get tested for a vitamin deficiency or even anaemia.

You Never Feel Great

You might not have a fever and you might not feel sick either, but if you are always battling a stomach ache or any other chronic source of discomfort then you may find that you are not looking after yourself. This is your body’s way of begging you to take better care of yourself. After all, stress and anxiety will wreak havoc on your body, so try and be honest with yourself and speak to a therapist if you can. You may find that your situation is very easy to solve after all.
