How to be successful to despite the odds

Can you imagine becoming successful if you were…

Thrown into a pit and sold into slavery.

Being accused and put into jail for a crime that you did not commit.

Hated by your family and told you were foolish for having big dreams.

This is what happened to Joseph in the book of Genesis chapter 39. To despite all of what happened to him he was still successful. He became the head of the prison ward where he was jailed,he was in charge of running Potiphar’s house (whose wife accused him of rape) and finally the lieutenant governor in Egypt. Joseph is one of my favorite characters in the bible because no matter what happened to him he always ended up in a top position. You may be wondering how was Joseph a success after all that he went through. There were 6 things that Joseph did that made him a success.

1. He never gave up on his dream. While he was in prison , he interpreted the dreams of the baker and the butler in Genesis 40.After the butler was released from prison, he went back to work for Pharaoh. Two years later, when Pharaoh had a dream the butler remembered Joseph and called him to interpret the dream. It was because of the dream he interpreted for Pharaoh he became released from prison and became the lieutenant governor of Egypt and the dream that he told his brothers about him reigning over them became true.

2. God was with Joseph. In Acts 7:9, it says “God was with Joseph”. To despite all he went through God still had a purpose and plan for Joseph. God protected him and guided him and fulfilled his plan.

3. He had favor. Wherever Joseph went people liked him and always appointed him to run and manage things. Two scriptures come to mind when I think about how God favored Joseph. The first one is Luke 1:28, when God told Mary before she delivered Jesus she was blessed and highly favored . The second scripture which comes to mind is Proverbs 16:7, “When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh his enemies at peace with him.

4. He maintained his integrity. When Potiphar’s wife tried to get Joseph to sleep with her, Joseph ran away from her . He was faithful to his boss and told his boss the truth even though he went to prison anyway .

5. He worked with a spirit of excellence. The reason why Joseph got promoted because everything he set his hands to he did it well. Colossians 3:23-34 says, “Whatever you do it heartily as to the Lord and not unto men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance, for your serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

6. He knew his purpose. The reason why he had a dream about him reigning over his brothers was because God’s purpose was for him to be a ruler in Egypt. It is very important for us to know what God has called us to do so that we head in the right direction.

In conclusion, no matter what circumstances you have gone through you can still be a success as long as you obey God and know his purpose and plan for your life.
