The problem of obesity has acquired a pandemic dimension these days. Obesity is a condition marked by excessive accumulation of body. In this context, it needs to be mentioned that being obese and being overweight are not the same thing. Obesity may be a cause of overweight but the weight can also come from bones, muscles and body fluid. The basic cause of obesity is an imbalance between calorie intake and calorie burnt. If our calorie intake exceeds the quantity of calorie used, we will turn obese. To know whether you are obese, you have to calculate your body mass index with reference to your height and weight.
Obesity is triggered by factors like consumption of fatty foods, physical inactivity, heredity, low basal metabolism, hormonal imbalance and overeating. An obese person may have the following symptoms: lethargy, breathlessness, huge body frame, disproportionate facial features, slow, sluggish movement, breast region adiposity in males, pot belly, flabby upper arms and thighs, knock-knees etc. Also the fact that you are obese may sink deep in to your psyche making you feel low, stressed out and inferior. Obesity decreases life-expectancy and can lead to serious ailments like diabetes, hypertension, asthma, heart diseases, stroke, arthritis and some types of cancers.
Ways to control obesity:
1. Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day. Water will give a feeling of fullness in stomach and will curb your hunger. In this way, you can reduce your calorie intake.
2. Plan out a sensible food chart. Satiate your hunger with fat free food items and foods low in carbohydrates. Include lots of vegetables, fruits and whole grains in your diet. Do not eat fried, oily food.
3. Stick to your exercise regimen sincerely. Do not miss out on exercises a single day. You can join a gym for the purpose or simply do it at home. Exercise will accelerate your calorie burning rate and will control your obesity effectively.
4. You can use herbal anti-obesity pills. These pills swell in your stomach giving you a feeling that you have eaten already. In other words, they curb your appetite. Some examples of such pills are Ballerina capsules, Meizitang capsules, Gugglin capsules etc. You generally have 2 pills each day. You can also use herbal slimming gels and can drink slimming teas to control your obesity.
5. You can try out the following home remedies:
a. Add ten grams of honey to a glass of lukewarm water and take in empty stomach in the morning. This will trim you effectively.
b. Take mint chutney along with meals to cut down on your body fat.
c. Drink glassful carrot juice daily. It will help to control obesity.
d. Consume cabbage in plenty. Cabbage is rich in slimming agents.
e. Consume 10-12 curry leaves in the morning to get rid of obesity
f. Consumption of a tomato in empty stomach relieves obesity.
6. If your obesity problem blows out of proportion you have to opt for liposuction, a medical procedure. Liposuction however is quite an expensive means of losing body fat.
