Talk less and listen more

It is important that you know more about your contact. You can build a relationship only if you listen and get to know what the contact’s likes, dislikes, and preferences are.
Develop a rapport by asking questions and understanding the person

When you ask questions you will come to know when to probe deeper into details and when not to. You should try to steer the conservation ahead on the right conversational note which could elicit more information.
Find an area of mutual interest

When you converse about family interest, hobbies, sports and other such topics, you develop a deeper relationship with the contact. It is often that customers are more relaxed and respond more openly when the conversation is about family, kids, or similar interests.
Earn the trust of your contact

When your contact realizes that you have put in a lot of effort to know more about his/her business and understand it, he/she would develop trust immediately. If the research you have done on the contacts enables you to offer new ideas and additional value for their benefit, they are more than half way through to becoming your clients.

If you put on a false front to your personality, your true self will emerge sooner or later. People cannot connect with someone who is not being their natural self. Be honest, have integrity and faith in yourself and remember that honesty is a trait which is admired and respected.
