HOW TO LEAVE YOUR JOB WITH DIGNITY AND CLASS

No matter the reason for leaving your job, you must try to make your exit a memorable one. When leaving your job give your colleagues every reason to sing this popular song “He was a jolly good fellow, so say all of us” for you.

There is always a need to make reference to your former place of work. Always remember that in the pursuit of your career, you might come in contact with your old colleagues and even your former boss. It is mandatory to give up to three months notice of disengagement from service in some companies. Make sure you do this to give your employer the opportunity to find replacement for you.

One common question often asked in any interview is why you left your former job. As a follow up to this, some companies will sometimes request for a confidential report on you to know the type of person you have been. This are classified materials that you will not have assess to and when your matter is being discussed you will not be there to defend yourself. These are some of the reasons why you must leave a good record behind.

In your valedictory address you must choose your words very carefully because this is what you will be remembered for after you leave.

It is not impossible that during your service period your boss or some of your colleagues must have stepped on your toes at one time or the other. Be careful not to let this show. 2. Promise to offer professional assistance any time you are called upon to do so.

3. Do not make it look as if you are in a hurry to leave but that you are leaving because you can not help it for personal reasons.

4. As soon as you know when you need to leave your job, schedule a mandatory meeting with your boss and colleagues and let them know your intention of leaving and when you will disengage finally.
