Some say that preparation is the key to success. As challenging as it can be at times, preparation may be the most underrated advantage in business. Many of us neglect it simply because we don’t know how, others refuse it due to elevated confidence. In either case, without it the ease of interaction diminishes tremendously. In all relationships there are commonalities, familiarize yourself with applicable information and those common denominators become business segues. Always prepare more for what their beliefs, thoughts, needs, and questions are. rnI met a prospect at a networking event, he was the Marketing Director for a major PR Firm in the region. During our discussion he expressed an opportunity he had to pick up a new client by developing an ancillary marketing campaign via Social Media. This seems to be a popular conversation that not many have a real answer to and by no means do I consider myself an expert in the field. However, I did feel that I could at least point him in the right direction. Preparation for his account could be critical, what we undoubtedly know is that it wouldn’t hurt. We scheduled a meeting for the following week to discuss what the company was currently doing, what initiatives were prevalent, and what resources were available. At the end of the day, companies want to create top of mind awareness and be a part of relevant conversations at the exact time purchasing decisions are being made.
