“Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.”- Thomas Jefferson How we think affects every aspect of our lives, our relationships, our health, and even our success. Whether we like it or not, our thoughts dictate every decision we make. The mind is a very simple thing to control and yet it seems to be the one thing that prevents us from living a life full of happiness and abundance. There is a constant battle between our conscious mind and our subconscious mind. Susan Shumsky explains, “Your conscious beliefs are what you think you believe. Your subconscious beliefs and deepest convictions are what you really believe.”  If the two minds are incongruent, you will never get what you think you want. And unfortunately, the subconscious mind always wins. Let’s take the example of wanting to make more money. If in your conscious mind you believe you want to make more money but you have limiting beliefs in your subconscious mind, guess what, you’ll always have a lack of money in your life. That’s not to say you’re destined for a life of poverty, but you won’t attract the wealth you want. The basic rule is that your external world reflects what’s going on internally. So if you don’t like what you see, it’s time to dig deep and figure out what’s holding you back.   Think about something that you really want. Maybe it’s to start a new business, have another baby or move to a new city. What’s stopping you from making it happen? Most likely, it’s one of the following self-sabotaging beliefs that’s holding you back from achieving your goals: - I’m not smart enoughrn- No one will ever pay me for thisrn- I don’t have enough moneyrn- I can’t do thisrn- I’m too oldrn- I don’t have enough timern- I don’t have what it takesrn- I’m a failure Add the self-sabotaging beliefs that you feel. Can you see how these would stop you in your tracks? If you believe these negative thoughts, you’ll never get out of your own way and really shine. We also have many fears that have been instilled in us. Whether they are from our parents, teachers, friends or just circumstances that we have witnessed at a young age, these crippling thoughts also prevent us from claiming what’s rightfully ours. Here is a list of some common fears. - Fear of rejectionrn- Fear of failurern- Fear of successrn- Fear of humiliationrn- Fear of the unknownrn- Fear of getting hurtrn- Fear of confrontation Again, add your own fears to the list. Circle the ones that stand in your way. The fears, limiting beliefs and self-sabotaging behaviours are just a way for your ego to keep you “safe.” It doesn’t like change and wants to keep you in this state of suffering. That’s where the ego feels comfortable. But that’s where pain resides. It’s scary to break free from this comfort zone, but when you do, magic happens. It takes courage and strength to face your fears head on because it means walking in a world of the unknown. What was the last thing you were really worried about? Did it turn out the way you imagined? Was it better than you thought it would be? Worse? How did you handle it? The point is, when faced with your fears, you always survive. It may not be pleasant or enjoyable, but somehow we always live to tell about it and hopefully gain some strength and clarity along the way.  We weren’t born with these limiting thoughts and behaviours and it’s within our control to overcome them. The good news is once you become clear about what’s going on inside and learn to let go, change happens almost immediately. To fully experience these positive changes in your life, it is imperative that you do the work to break down these thoughts and behaviours and deflate them once and for all. I know you can do this. Your future is waiting.
