When I was twelve (but looked about eighteen), nI entered a beauty contest sponsored by a beach nclub in Santa Monica ... And, even though I was ncompeting against women who were in their late nteens and early twenties, I won. n nI was thrilled! n nAnd for that year I was “Miss Del Mar” nand entered the world of modeling. n nPretty soon I had an agent and that led to my first nTV commercial when I was 15 and my first role non a TV series when I was 16. I played Ricky’s ngirlfriend on “Ozzie and Harriet.” n nIt was pretty heady stuff and I loved it. n nAND I was scared all the time. n nScared of what? n nNot being good enough. After all I had no formal ntraining as an actress, only the lead in all the plays nat my high school. n nNow, having all the leads might have indicated nto me that I was really talented. But no. To me, nit just meant I was the best of a bunch of kids nwho didn’t know what they were doing. n nYet, one role led to another and another and I was nstill doing fashion shows and photo shoots as well. n nSo I put myself through UCLA while I continued nworking. n nAll it meant to me was that I was making more nmoney than my friends who were babysitting and nit was more glamorous and fun. n nBut I still figured I’d get married and have 2.1 nchildren, a dog and a picket fence. n nIt NEVER dawned on me that I could have a big ncareer as an actress. n nIt NEVER dawned on my that I could make a nfortune doing something that was really fun.n nIt NEVER dawned on me that I could get nmarried and have children and keep working. n nWhy? Because my internal allegiance was to nremaining as small as my parents. (Dad was na high school drop-out and sold cars. Mom was a nhousewife who’d taken one class in college. nBoth were super smart and super depressed and nfrustrated but that didn’t spur them to help me nadvance my career. Quite the contrary.). n nAnd, the fact is, I thought I’d way surpassed them. nSo, at an unconscious level, that was as far as I could go. nI’d hit my internal glass ceiling, although I didn’t know it. n nI turned down amazing offers, sabotaged my career at nthis turn and that, always telling myself that I was ngoing to be a wife and mother (and I always believed nmy frail alibi). n nThe full story is way too long for this space, but I assure nyou that I’ve suffered plenty of regrets that I didn’t nknow how to seize the day and ride that opportunity nfor all it was worth. n n(And Jim has a similar story that you’ll learn about nin due time.) n nNow, as I said earlier, a subscriber sent me an email. nAnd it had the following link n nhttp://imdb.com/name/nm1403483/n nTake a look if you want ...and that’s just part of nmy resume. It also includes “Star Trek” and n“The Bill Dana Show” and numerous others. n nIt came so easy. n nBut it was even easier to allow my fear, especially thenmassive fear that was unconscious, to run the show. n nThat’s why Jim and I are now so passionate about helping nyou understand what holds you back, how to break nfree, AND how to ride that life of yours into the ndreams you hold dear so you CAN actually live them, nand emjoy them! nnJudith Sherven and Jim Sniechowski, producers nof the "Bridging Heart and Marketing" Internet nmarketing conferences for the soft sell community ninvite you to grow your business by getting their nbonus audio "How To Build Your Soft Sell Marketing nPlatform."
