As we grow older, we become whole on our own. We are like Asian art, fully blown. It is normal for people to constantly seek human’s help for no man is an island. We connect and we interact with others. But “us” as a whole and our appreciation of ourselves do not depend on how others see us as we mature.
In fact, time will come that the way people see us will not matter anymore when we start to have a good grasp of ourselves. It is good to be pro-people. We grow up being ones, in fact, because as a child, our emotion depends on how our friends, peers, strangers see us. If we can only be the best of Asian art so they will see us great, we will. The way they treat us is a different thing. We respond to it until we grow old. But the importance of how others see us will only have a minimal bearing on our lives as we grow older. The truth is when we stop trying to please others, that is the time we see ourselves and we think of ourselves. It is better to know what will make us feel satisfied and push for it no matter what because otherwise, life is maddening, frustrating, and sad. There are people who discover themselves to love the beach and staying by it can make them happy. There are ones who will not even care if they have a place of their own, of whether this is rented or owned as long as they travel and hop to places. For them, they are already happy that they have friends everywhere who can accommodate them whenever they need a place to stay in. Many too would love to have mansion houses while others would prefer a pretty neat place but a classy one in a renowned address in the city. However, there are people too who are satisfied in a very poor abode but food and abundance of food can make them really happy. Some are happy with crafts while a few still embrace fine arts when they look for artworks for sale. And while others would love Prada and Ferregamo in their wardrobe, there are thousands who are after gadgets. We see people too whose happiness is money stuffed in the bank. It does not matter if they do not see places. They do not pay for comfort, as well, as if they can settle in slums with a few pieces of clothes as long as their money grow in the bank.
The truth is there is no right or wrong for everyone. To each is his own—with his own personality, character, preferences, and happiness. And settling for something else to bend their prerogatives is indeed quite sickening. Go for what can make us happy as long as it is not at the expense of other people. And if people judge us of what can make us happy, we can just simply walk away not minding of the words they say once we understand that there are people judging us because their preferences are just different from us.
As we grow older, we know what we can take for a few days, weeks, and months and longer than that is a hell for us. We bend. We adapt. But compromising who we are and what we are is of no good advice we give to ourselves. It is true that as we grow older knowing ourselves and what we want, then we can only be the best of Asian art.
