Introduction n
n
For centuries stretching back ninto the dim corridors of time, asian religions have spoken of a mystical nforce called the kundalini. Knowledge of how to awaken the kundalini, what it ndoes, and what to do after its awakening was a closely guarded secret among nspiritual masters of the east. Those spiritual masters had very good reasons nfor keeping secret their knowledge of this power; it is very easy to hurt nyourself very badly with this energy. This monograph records my understanding nof the spiritual path based upon my life experiences with kundalini nawakenings. This treatise has become necessary in general because of the nincreased interest in the kundalini and use of sound and light machines which nare capable of awakening the kundalini. In specific, this treatise is nnecessary because of the Enlightenment light and sound session I have created nand recorded in the manual Awakening Mind 1.n
n
Kundalini n
n
The kundalini is a powerful nenergy that eastern religions say lies coiled at the base of the spine in nhumans. The kundalini feels like a warm liquidy magnetic energy when it rises nup the spine. Once awakened, you will find that the kundalini gradually rises nand then slowly subsides within the spine, only to rise again later on. Each ntime it rises, it rises further up the spine and will continue rising and nsubsiding until it eventually reaches the brain. The whole process may take nmonths to complete. There are a number of effects of the rising of this nenergy. All of these effects are available to those who have awakened the nkundalini. Although you may have to ask for some of these qualities. It is for nthese effects that disciples have committed their lives to raising the nkundalini energy over the ages.n
n
1. Bliss: n
n
The rising of the kundalini is nextremely blissful. Most people have experienced sex. The most common nexperience to compare another experience to is sex. The answer that something nis better than sex is almost a laughable clich‚. The kundalini is about 100 ntime more enjoyable than sex and I am not laughing. It is much more blissful! nThe rising of the kundalini is extremely blissful. Most people have nexperienced sex. The most common experience to compare another experience to nis sex. The answer that something is better than sex is almost a laughable nclich‚. The kundalini is about 100 time more enjoyable than sex and I am not nlaughing. It is much more blissful!n
n
2. Visions and Images: n
n
There are many various visions nthat appear in the mind once the kundalini has been awakened. Many disciples nof the kundalini have written of visions of the chakras and various other nforms. Some visions are precognitive; some are not. The most striking vision nthat ever occurred to me was that of a lovely woman dressed all in white and ngently wafting the sweetest love. Not only could I see her form, I also felt nher texture and smelled her fragrance. She smelled like the sweetest of roses nbut more delicate and haunting. Her texture was like the softest of rose npetals. . .very ethereal. There are other visions of people and places I have nhad that possessed a quality that made them feel more real than any sensual nimpression. It wasn't only that you saw them, or heard them, or smelled them, nbut that you felt them with every fiber of your being. After feeling these nvisions, impressions from the external world feel dead in comparison. Many nlesser order images also float through the mind of the disciple. Images of nmemories from days long past. Images of objects, people, books, places, and nnatural scenes delight the mind of the devotee.n
n
3. Awareness Of The Divine: n
n
When I awakened the kundalini the nfirst time, there was always a sense of the nearness of the divine. Very nseldom was I able to place a name to the presence, with the exception of some nwell known to myself presences (such as Christ, Yogananda, etc.). The sense of nthat nearness of the divine was always a comfort.n
n
4. All You Ever Wanted: n
n
Almost every one chases after nmaterial objects here and there in the world. Cars, houses, sex, etc. are nquite often sought in a vain attempt to fill some inner void within the soul. nOne of the most remarkable feelings I ever experienced during my experiences nwith the kundalini was simply the realizations that this was all I ever nwanted. Whenever I wanted anything else, I was looking for a substitute for nthe feelings I was experiencing. There was a complete sense of fullness that nsatisfies any void within your soul.n
n
5. Purity, Integration, and nthe Expansion of the Mind: n
n
I don't care how religious or npure you are before you awaken the kundalini. Afterwards, the kundalini begins nto really make you clean inside. That feeling of being made clean is real npurity. When you are going through it, it doesn't feel at all like the nsickeningly sweet goodness that many of the religious members of our society nhave tried to put forth (Self Righteous Purity). That kind of goodness feels ncounterfeit as compared to the real purity of the genuine spiritual path. I ndon't care how religious or pure you are before you awaken the kundalini. nAfterwards, the kundalini begins to really make you clean inside. That feeling nof being made clean is real purity. When you are going through it, it doesn't nfeel at all like the sickeningly sweet goodness that many of the religious nmembers of our society have tried to put forth (Self Righteous Purity). That nkind of goodness feels counterfeit as compared to the real purity of the ngenuine spiritual path..n
n
One of the ways the divine naccomplishes that purity is through a process known to psychologists as nintegration. Integration is a fundamental part of the spiritual path. nIntegration is the process of dissolving memories of ugly past experiences to nwhich the ego has erected barriers. Integration happens when you become fully naware of a past experience. Integration is much easier to perform with the nkundalini than without. However, there are things hidden deep inside almost neveryone of which the mind could choose to rebel at becoming aware. It is more nrisky if you choose not to cooperate with integration while undergoing nenlightenment. Without integration you get disciples like some televangelists nwho give voice to spiritual principles, but then are driven to chase after nprostitutes, or scam schemes. With integration you cease to be driven by past ndecisions made in response to bad experiences. This process results in your nmind dropping its defenses and expanding its awareness.n
n
6. Intuitional Knowledge: n
n
It is hard to say how someone nknows things by intuition, however, one of the strongest experiences I had nduring the awakening of my kundalini was that of receiving (revealed) nknowledge. It didn't really matter about what; it could be how to play a nphysical sport or any other interest, but when I received it, I either knew nwith every fiber of my being that it was revealed truth (The Lessons of nEnlightenment) or I knew with my mind that I were being given a deep insight. nThe deep insight feelings have stayed with me through the years. n
7. Mystical Powers: n
n
One of the things you are taught non the spiritual path is how to use psychic powers. One of the fundamental nlaws of psychic powers is that you can't influence psychically that from which nyou feel separate. By removing the barriers of the ego and expanding the mind, nyou begin to lose that sense of separateness from everything. The other nfundamental law of psychic powers is that if your go around using psychic npowers for egotistical purposes, you are glorifying the ego (limited sense of nself) and are setting yourself up to lose the positive effects of the nkundalini and experience a spiritual fall. An absolute must is to only use nexceptional powers when you are directed to by the spirit. After all, even nChrist wouldn't perform for Herod's pleasure, when Herod wanted Christ to show nhim he was God!n
n
8. Love and Protection: n
n
When I was experiencing the rise nof the kundalini, I always felt a deep abiding sense of being loved and nprotected. It was almost as if my soul was having a very deep romance with the ndivine who looked over and protected me from all harm. Indeed, I was left with nthe impression that the only harm that could come to me was from my own hand. nWhile awakened, these feelings of love and protection are great at removing nfears.n
n
Perils Of A Kundalini nAwakening n
n
The Kundalini is by definition a nhigh energy state. Every high energy state has negative side effects if that nenergy is withdrawn (withdrawal symptoms). Vitality, for example, is a high nenergy generally stable state. If vitality if withdrawn, as in extreme old nage, the body become decrepit, weakened and diseased. Sexual experience is a nhigh energy highly unstable state. Upon climax, sexual energy is withdrawn and nyou feel tired, weakened, and lose interest in sex for a time. Daily nvigorousness is a moderate stable generally high energy state (at least in nchildhood). When withdrawn at the end of each day, tiredness and sleep is the nresult. Any energy state, especially a high energy state, upon withdrawal of nthat energy, has withdrawal symptoms. The kundalini is no exception! The nseverity of the withdrawal symptoms appear to be related to how long the nkundalini has been active. If you awaken the kundalini, and only feel the nbliss for a few days, and then shut it down, you may only feel depressed or nblue for several days. If the kundalini has been awakened for several weeks, nyou will probably experience a spiritual fall that lasts for several days to a nweek or more.n
n
The signs and symptoms of a nSpiritual Fall are as follows: 1. A collapse sensation felt within the mind. n2. A feeling of fear that grows over time. 3. A feeling of mental anguish or npain that increases over time. 4 Confusion and short term memory loss. 5. A ndirect and profound confrontation with suppressed subconscious material and ndissociated self concepts that may result in a lasting internal conflict or nworse. These are all psychological withdrawal symptoms. I am not a physician, nbut other than symptoms associated with mental shock, I have never felt any nsymptoms I would associate with physical withdrawal symptoms (shaking, ndelirium, sweating, etc.) If you survive, most of these symptoms last for nseveral days and then gradually will get better as things stabilize. In my nmind, it is not at all certain someone in poor health would survive a really nbad fall. A full fledged spiritual fall can be hard on you physically. nHowever, if you survive, you will probably be left with recurring anxiety nattacks and after a period of time the kundalini will be trying to burn itself nthrough any psychological block (see Kundalini: The Evolutionary Energy In nMan, by Gopi Krishna). So that's is pretty heavy, isn't it!n
n
Soon, I will tell you that no one nneed ever go through a fall again. However, what I have described above is nexactly why the specifics of this knowledge has been kept secret for ages. nGenerally, the knowledge that has been released by those in the know has been npretty watered down. Any one who wanted enlightenment from a valid spiritual nmaster had to go through initiation and years of training. This was to make nsure that a disciple really wanted enlightenment more than anything in the nworld and that he/she was purified enough so that a spiritual fall was nunlikely to happen by itself. An awakening before this is what has been termed na premature awakening. What normally shuts the kundalini down is simply the ninability or the unwillingness to keep it going. The inability to keep it ngoing results from the subconsciousness mind being unwilling to look at npowerful suppressed events. Generally, the subconscious mind uses external nmaterial objects that have previously given pleasure to displace the pain and nmemories of an unpleasant event. Integration is a fundamental part of the nkundalini experience.n
n
The kundalini, like any nstimulative energy, will bring up suppressed material and you have to be nwilling to let go of that material and any desires (material attachments) you nused to repress it. For this situation, it may be better to integrate this nmaterial before you awaken the kundalini (see Awakening Mind 2). If you are a nuser of Light and Sound Sessions, you should know that you can not use another nlight and sound session without running the risk of shutting down the nkundalini. This is an easy thing to do, but any technology that can aid in nenlightenment can remove enlightenment! Many people wonder if you can have sex nafter a kundalini awakening. There have been enlightened people in India who nwere either a husband or wife and yet had sex. My understanding is that it nhinders the rising of the kundalini. I think the only way sex would stop the nkundalini is if you really lost yourself in the climax.n
n
You will also shut the kundalini ndown if at some point you decide you don't want to go through it any more and nrefuse to cooperate with it. Your will is supreme . . at least in the short nrun. If you decide against even a force as strong as the kundalini, you will nshut it down. I have described the effects of the kundalini, if there are some nof those effects you don't want, then don't even think of awakening this nforce. I have described the effects of a spiritual fall, if you don't want to nrisk those effects, then don't even think about awakening the kundalini. Pass nit by and go on with your life. On the other hand, if you are looking for nsomething deeply rewarding, something enlivening, and something that causes nspiritual and mental evolution, awakening and enlightenment, then the nkundalini experience is for you. These are the risks that have been run by ndisciples of the kundalini through the ages. Technology has changed all of nthat. The good news is that many if not all of the effects of a spiritual fall nare reversible with the help of light and sound sessions if caught in time. nPreexisting psychological conditions aggravated by a fall are not reversible nwithout further integrative work. No one need ever go through what I have ndescribed above. I have included full instructions on how to awaken the nkundalini and how to stop a spiritual fall in the Awakening Mind 1 manual.n

Awakening the Kundalini n
n
Natural Method n
n
Although this method is not the nonly way to do it, the following method is the one with which I am most nfamiliar. In general, to awaken the kundalini naturally, two things are nnecessary. You must be able to enter a deep meditative trance state and when nyou do, you must have enough residual energy so that the kundalini will nnaturally awaken. This is accomplished using the following methods. The first npart of this process is to enter a deep meditative trance state. While lying ndown, take slow deep breaths through your nose. You don't want to become over nstimulated while doing this, so don't breath too fast. While you are doing nthis gently concentrate on your breathing. If your mind wanders and you stop ndeep breathing, don't let it bother you, just resume again. Eventually, you nwill slip into a trance state. It is not likely that you will raise the nkundalini while lying down. However, this practice is extremely important in nlearning how to enter the trance state. The trance state always feels like nless time has elapsed than actually has elapsed. However, there are varying ndegrees of depth to the trance state. Occasionally, you will be aware while in ntrance. During this experience, time feels like it has been suspended. nSometimes, you will not be aware while in trance; at these times, you will nexperience a sort of missing time. Once you have mastered the trance state nwhile lying down, you are ready to go to practicing it while sitting up with nyour back as straight as you can. While practicing the following techniques ndon't strain and perform them in a quiet, secluded place. If necessary take nyour phone off the hook and put the kids to bed.n
n
I suggest you start by practicing na yoga breathing technique called "alternate nostril breathing." Alternate nnostril breathing calms the mind and energizes the third eye chakra. Alternate nnostril breathing is performed in the following manner. Rest the base of the npalm of your right hand on your chin and your three middle fingers on your nforehead; if necessary rest your elbow on a table. Gently press closed your nleft nostril with your little finger and breath in through your right nostril. nNow, close your right nostril with your thumb, and slowly breath out through nyour left nostril. Next, breath in through your left nostril, while your thumb nholds the right nostril closed. Finally, breath out through you right nostril nwhile your left nostril is held closed by your little finger. Repeat the nprocess over and over until your mind clears of thoughts and is relaxed. Once nyour mind is quiet and relaxed rest your hands on your lap or a table and nstart slow deep breathing through your nose. Eventually, you will slip into a nmeditative trance state. If you have enough residual energy from the breathing nexercises, your third eye or crown chakra will awaken, you will see brilliant nflashes of light in your mind, be brought instantly out of trance state, and nfeel alot of bliss. While practicing any of the above exercises, you should nfeel no strain at all. Sit against the side of your bed or in a chair to relax nyou back if you need to. Don't force yourself to breath in or out rapidly. If nany of your muscles feel tense, consciously try to relax them. If your mind is nrestless keep doing the alternate nostril breathing, but don't force your mind nto be calm. Personally, I much prefer the following artificial method. You nhave much more control over your mental state and can compensate for a fall, nif it should occur. Whether the kundalini will awaken with the natural method nis hit or miss. It depends upon how much energy exists within you when you nenter trance state, how straight your back is, and how complete a trance state nyou enter. With the artificial method, you have exact control over your energy nstate. However, with the artificial method, you must have access to a ncomputer, light and sound machine, or a tape player.n
n
Artificial Method n
n
The kundalini is easily awakened nusing light and sound sessions. Indeed it is only the sound portion of light nand sound sessions that is needed to awaken the kundalini. The principle ninvolved is quite simple. All you have to do is to use a session to put nyourself into a very deep trance like state and then stimulate the mind. nNothing is easier to do with a light and sound session. This works is because nthe trance like state removes the ego's barriers and the stimulation awakens nthe kundalini. This is equivalent to saying that the trance state unlocks the ndoor, and the stimulation open it. After the door is open it is up to you to nfollow through. The session will awaken automatically the kundalini, however nyou have to be ready to commit to its rising. The following frequencies are nthe ones used within the enlightenment session:n
n
Stage 1 & 3n
257 250n
236 243n
n
Stage 2n
261 254n
233 240n
n
Stage 1 & 3 provides the trance nstate. Stage 2 provides the stimulation. There are a great many things that nyou need to know before you can begin to successfully use this session: ndurations, waveform, volume, filters, exact practice, what to do if the trance nstate doesn't take, etc. All of these things, plus who should or should not nuse light and sound session, what to expect to occur at various frequencies, nhow to write effective sessions, and much more is explained in the Awakening nMind manual listed within the back of this monograph. The effects of either nthe trance or the stimulative state taken separately wear off after a couple nof days. After that time it is all your energy and you must either do what it ntakes to keep the kundalini going or resist it and shut it down. The next nsection is all about keeping the kundalini going.n
n
Riding The Kundalini n
n
The way to ride the kundalini is nto pay its price. The price of the kundalini is not demanded of you, it is nsimply asked. It is always your decision whether you will give that price or nnot. . .Always. The price of the kundalini is very simple. Every time you feel nthe blissful effects of the kundalini simply loose yourself in it, no matter nwhat. This is the same as saying that you give complete devotion to the Spirit nof God, nothing more, nothing less. What primarily is asked of any disciple of nthe kundalini is simply that you surrender yourself to it and loose yourself nin it (as you might loose yourself in a good movie at a theater). Also, when nthe spirit within you asks you to do something; simply do it. I doubt very nmuch that you will be asked to do anything harmful. However, the fundamental nprice of the kundalini is that you lose the ego within it and fully cooperate nwith it to the best of your ability. Render unto God, that which is God's (who nyou are and what you are devoted to (what you want)). It is that simple. nEventually, you will be asked to let go of any material desires or attachments nthat blocks full awareness. What will be shown to you in return is that you nare not who you thought you were and that what you thought you wanted, wasn't nwhat you wanted at all.n

About the Author n
n
I have undergone 6 or 7 kundalini nawakenings during my life time. After the first awakening at age 15-16 in the nspring of 1969, I have spent much of my life exploring the ins and outs of the nkundalini and the spiritual path. In 1992, I wrote the Awakening Mind 1 manual nthat details how to use light and sound sessions to create natural and altered nstates of mind (OOBEs, and Kundalini states, etc.) Altered states and light nand sound sessions are my passion. I don't think of myself as a guru n(dispeller of darkness). A guru quite often is the path (as Christ said "I am nthe way, the truth, and the life"). I am rather a teacher of what I know. I am none who has found the doorway and the key and simply points it out and helps nothers who want to open it and walk through.

In Akram Vignan, spiritual awakening, also known as Self-realisation and enlightenment, are understood uniquely. Here is an explanation of their meanings and experiences within the context of Akram Vignan: Spiritual Awakening (awareness of the Self): In Akram Vignan, spiritual awakening is referred to as "waking up to the knowledge of who am I." It is the initial phase where an individual becomes aware of their true nature as a pure Soul separate from the mind, body, and ego.
