Jeff, one of my closest friends, called me yesterday. He was very frustrated. He cannot understand why his team manager does not treat him accordingly to his great efforts. He shared with me the fact that lately, due to atmosphere efficiency, fairing and cutting costs he has decided to act. He made the decision to be more involved, to initiate, help, and stand out - or in other words, become a core part of the team and the organization. As a result his mangers will find out how difficult it would be if they were to lose him as an employee in the hopes that they wouldn't let him go, even when harder times come. Following the plan he created, he initiated new business directions in order to increase revenues. He shared his work and information with his team members. He worked a lot of hours from the office and even took work home with him, working late into the night to reach his goals. Jeff speaks at all meetings, respects other peoples ideas and thoughts and gives his boss tips regarding the work of the team as well as all the information needed to assist him as well. He hoped that his strategy would produce results, gaining appreciation, but instead the opposite seemed to occur. Despite his efforts Jeff does not feel appreciated. He finds himself getting into a lot of arguments as it seems no one sees his efforts and his manager constantly trys to avoid him. Frustration sinks in and Jeff starts to resent everyone for not seeing his hard work. Each and every day the fear of getting fired fuels the fire to try harder, even if he is not being acknowledged. While we discussed this situation, I used some information, knowledge and examples which I took from Deepak Chopra's new interactive program: "The Seven Laws of Success Online Program" One of Deepak's laws is the forth law: "The Law of Least Effort". The path to fulfillment doesn't need to be so difficult, and offers three liberating steps to a happier and more abundant life by taking the path of least effort. 1. Accept people, circumstances, and events as they are in this moment. When confronted with any challenge, remind yourself, "This moment is as it should be," because the entire universe is as it should be. 2. Take responsibility for your situation without blaming anything or anyone, including yourself. Every problem is an opportunity to take this moment and transform it into greater benefit. 3. Be un-defended. Relinquish the need to defend your point of view. In defenselessness, you remain open to all points of view, not rigidly attached to one of them. As for Jeff, I told him that it seems that he is trying too hard, and that's why things are not happening as he planned. I suggested that he might consider stop trying so hard and take a break. He should understand that the universe will send him a massage to hold back a little and not try so hard, for sometimes when we are trying too hard we reach the opposite end result. One of the exercises in the online program deals with situations such as Jeff's and I invite you to practice it. Please take a couple of moments, sit down in a quiet place and answer the following question in writing! What can you do today to better accept things as they are? (For example: to focus on what there IS in every situation, taking your time to respond and not react automatically, seeing things from many perspectives, etc.) The purpose of this exercise is to help you direct your thoughts toward excepting things as they are so you can grow through them, getting you closer to reaching self fulfillment. As you can see, it is not about not-doing things. It's about doing things differently. Jeff did some thinking, and after completing some exercises decided to stop fighting for things to go his way and accepted things as they are.. He made the decision to stop worrying about the feedback from his boss and colleagues and just be who he is, do his best and keep himself open minded - welcoming any changes to come. I also would like to add one phrase which I learned from my manager when I worked for Microsoft: "Do Few Things Well." When we are doing a lot of things, we are not necessarily getting great results. Not when we do few things, but well.... It is always better, to us and to our surroundings. I invite you to experience Deepak Chopra's latest released project: The Seven Laws of Success online program and exercise your way towards success and a happier live. The Seven Laws of Success online program is based on Dr. Deepak Chopra's two best-selling books: "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success" and "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga." This new, interactive online program was created in order to help people realize their dreams and aspirations and fulfill their potential. Empowering them to live the life they always intended. This amazingly easy and fulfilling program is rich and varied and includes hundreds of exclusive video and audio files, questionnaires, yoga exercises, explanations and meditation sessions all guided by Dr. Deepak Chopra & Dr. David Simon, who will help them to understand what success is, and inspire them to achieve it. I invite you to join the full program to practice all the seven laws and get yourself closer to outstanding success as well as a happier life. Read more at Seven Laws Online
