Lokahi's statewide holiday donation drive coming up December first is the tip of the iceberg.nnThroughout the year, we meet with social service agencies to determine what the greatest needs are. nnThen, we find donors who can fill those needs. nn"It's definitely a year-round commitment that we have to the community" says Hawaii Self Storage Marketing Manager Shaun Salvador. nnHawaii Self Storage didn't hesitate, signing on as our official year-round Lokahi donation drop off site. nn"They come here drop off any donation item. We write a receipt for them and put it in a locker and then put it in Lokahi's locker" explains Salvador. nnThe first to go in? Donations from PriceBusters- toys for the keiki and for mom and dad-- skincare products. nnAccents Honolulu designed and printed our new Lokahi brochures. nn"To be part of a project that gives back to the community and helps families that really need it. That's why we're doing the printing" says owner Faye Ross. "I wish we could do more." nnAnd, they are- On top of taking our brochure portrait, photographer Mark Arbeit donated proceeds from sales of these portraits at the gallery to Lokahi. nnLocal jewelry designers like Lynnjean are also getting behind Lokahi. nn"I'm so happy they've come forth and said I want to donate because they love the project" says Ross. nnMahalo for the generosity that allows us to devote our full resources to families in need. nnHawaii Self Storage is accepting applications for its college scholarship program, through which 12 O'ahu public high school students will receive $1,000 scholarships renewable annually for up to $4,000 toward their college education. nnScholarships are available to students in high schools near Self Storage's Salt Lake, Pearl City and Kaimuki locations, as well as to those public school students near the under-construction Mililani and Kapolei locations. The scholarship may be renewed two years toward an associate degree and up to four years for a bachelor's degree. nnAnother self-storage facility opensnnMW Group opened its third Oahu storage facility Tuesday, this one in Kaimuki on Waialae Avenue across from competitor Public Storage. nnThe 171,000-square-foot, four-story Hawaii Self Storage-Kaimuki building has 1,600 units that range from 16 square feet to more than 400 square feet.
