YOGA is the oldest form of physical training and is part of the ancient Indian Science of Ayurveda. There are primative drawings on the walls of the caves in the Indus Valley in northern India where the very first pictoral descriptions of Hatha Yoga were recorded about 5000 years ago, according to radio-carbon dating. Today, it is difficult to find any physical culture that does not have its roots in Yoga.

YOGA is a complete system in that it seeks to harmonize all 3 aspects of our being. Physical, mental, and spiritual, respectively. Although YOGA is not a religion. The physical style of YOGA that most practitioners in the west are familiar with is HATHA YOGA. HA and THA being sanskrit root words that refer to the qualities of the sun and moon. To the human body, this translates are perfect balance of all the internal organs, circulation, respiration, skeletal infrastructure, elimination and their maintenance.

YOGA utilizes various types of training such as physical poses and movements that mimic animals and geometric designs that could be said to indicate the very template of the universe. Also, it utilizes, breath control, philosophy, relaxation training, diet and maintenance of proper codes of living that create self-order and dignity.

YOGA has finally in these last decades been discovered and revered for its health benefits by western medical science. There is something in it for everyone who seeks health, longevity and that inner place within themselves that calls to each and everyone of us. Shakespeare said.."to thine own self be true".
