Throughout life, right from our earliest years, we come under the influence of the planetary cycles, particularly the challenging seven-year-cycles of Saturn; these cycles influence our physical, mental and emotional growth. On a physical level Satu
represents the skeletal structure upon which our bodies are built, our skin and teeth; likewise -- on a nonphysical level -- Satu
provides the psychological frame upon which our life is shaped, right through from our earliest years.

For most of the first year of life, the newbo
baby will live mainly through the Moon's influence, then, somewhere between a year and eighteen months of age, the influence of Mercury, Venus and the Sun will also begin to come into effect; it is now that the slow process of separation from the mother begins as the child slowly starts to find its own individuality. At about the same time it will also begin to discover the outside world and other people in it, and may reach out to relate and communicate it in some way or other. As the infant's perception begins to develop, many images and impressions play upon its imagination; some will come from within, others from more exte
al factors, particularly those experienced within the home and family.

From around eighteen months to three years, the more minor cycles of Mars will cause the child to want to do more things for itself and so will develop a lot more energy, drive and initiative. Children of this age will sometimes display the less favourable qualities of Mars (anger) and temper tantrums can often ensue. This period is sometimes known as the 'terrible twos'. Ideally, at this age, children need the opportunity to express any anger they feel safely and constructively so that they can learn to deal with their ill-humor in a similar way when fully grown. It can sometimes be a somewhat trying and exhausting time for the parents, but if the child is handled with kindness, firmness and love, hopefully the phase will not last too long for, by a child's third birthday its energy and interest begins to shift outward, as it begins to discover the outside world and everything that fashions it.

The Jupiter cycles come more into prominence from the age of three; Jupiter can help the youngster to grow and expand while developing its curiosity for life. During the next few years of life, the child will be broadening his or her horizons generally in order to push forward into the world.

During the earliest part of life the infant does not remember events as an adult would, rather it will pick up impressions and feelings, usually from the parents -- particularly the mother -- as well as the home and environment.

Broadly speaking, as the child's awareness continues to develop and move outwards it should start to learn what brings out the best in others as well as the art of cooperation: equally, there may be a need to put up barriers to shut out certain people or situations. Much is learnt unconsciously, as the child picks up on patterns of cooperation or non cooperation between parents, or on positive or negative attitudes from family or society in general; such things colour the individuals sense of responsibility and value in later life. The most well-meaning parents often have their own problems which are passed on (unconsciously) to their offspring, but such problems will generally become more marked when Satu
squares its own natal position, on average during the child's seventh year.

Certainly events during the early years of life can have a vivid influence on the child's psyche which may have a profound effect in later years. However, since we are born with a certain predisposition -- as can be seen clearly from a birth chart -- not everything will necessarily arise directly from this time, but may be an inherent part of the personality (which can, and often will be, influenced by outside events).
