Moms,What Is Stopping You?

Recently, I was speaking with a moms group about the importance of taking time for yourself. I asked the mothers the following question, "What is stopping you from taking time for yourself?" Most of the mothers shared their most common reasons for not finding "Me" time. They cited:
Not enough time
Not being clear about what to do with "Me Time"
Feeling guilty because there are so many other things to do
The belief that they don't have the resources (time, money, support) to take time alone
I listened to each of these mothers deeply.
I then asked the following question: Pretend that you were your own mother. What advice would you give yourself?"
The moms all chimed in at once and the room was full of responses. They said the following:
Stop cleaning the house every waking second and enjoy your life
Leave work early once a week and go to the bookstore.
Play with the children in the backyard. It is good for you.
Get the children to help more around the house.
Create a family schedule and follow it. n The list went on and on.
When the group shifted their focus to mother toward themselves it allowed them to see areas that need to find time. It was a powerful exercise for us all. Mothers advise, support and nurture the dreams of others but often just forget about themselves. Is this you?
In my book, Time for mom-Me:5 Essential Strategies for A Mother's Self-Care, I talk about this issue and how to create a routine that includes mom. My goal is help moms put the "Me" back in Mommy.
If we desire to be the best parents to our children then we must start by being the best to ourselves. We can never give what we do not have.
Challenge:
Answer the following questions:
What is stopping you from making consistent time for yourself?
Pretend that you are your own mother. What advice would you give yourself about your life?
What will you implement this week? n
Live fully,
