Depression and anxiety treatments are gaining new, albeit actually traditional, grounds. Herbal medicines used for the treatment of depression are becoming widely used. For example, St. John's wort is gaining renewed and increased attention in its practical use to treat depression. Another herb, the hypericum is even now beginning to overtake other pharmacological medications in the use for depression treatment. Depression is a serious illness that interferes with a person's life. A lot of times, when people say they are depressed, we may not think anything of it because "I am just depressed" is a term that is thrown around all too often. But when a person is allegedly depressed, there is no denying it. You may notice that they have either gained or lost weight, stay inside all of the time, quit their job or perform poorly at work, mope around all of the time, and/or always look like they have been crying. The word depression is far too broad a description of what is really the matter. The dictionary definition of the word 'depression' is a despondency, dejection or despair giving you a feeling of hopelessness and inadequacy. A good analysis of the effect of your depression, but it says nothing about the cause. This natural treatment for depression is sold in the US as a nutritional supplement rather than as prescription drug, although, as will be seen later, its side effect profile is not to be underestimated. The compound is marketed as either SAM-e or under other trade names such as Gumbaral, Samyr, Adomet and Admethionine. Apart of being marketed as natural treatment for depression SAM-e is also sold as remedy for liver diseases and osteoarthritis. 5-HTP is also called Hydroxytryptophan, a natural amino acid that comes from the Griffonia Simplicifolia plant. When taken alone 5-HTP is taken in doses of 150 to 350 milligrams. When coupled with St. John's Wort the doses of 5-HTP is smaller, between 25 and 100 milligrams. Sometimes feelings of grief and loss become amplified into depression if a person tries to handle those feelings in the wrong way such as turning to heavy drinking of alcohol. Natural ways to treat depression recognize that this disease can start in a host of different sources. More people get depressed than most of us realize, and it's not good to have a drugged-up society as a result of treatment attempts. Some people actually claim that the depression medications can only do about 20% of the work they are supposed to do, which is to cure depression! They will certainly correct the chemical imbalance but then they will also play havoc with the brain chemicals (serotonin and noreadrenaline) causing problems such as eating disorders and a loss of libido. It sometimes seems to patients that the doctors are taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut! Natural treatments for depression do not have such debilitating side effects. Natural treatment for depression is said to be the best treatment because it does not cause any side effects. Natural methods of cure are always preferred for treating almost all kinds of diseases apart from depression. There are several natural treatments and herbal products available all over the world. These products are also available online, but only upon the advice of the doctor. When a survey was conducted to find the best possible cure, the first and foremost preference was given to the natural treatment for depression by 75% of the doctors all over the world.
