Anxiety is labeled as a heightened state of alarm, uneasiness and apprehension; normal levels of anxiety occur within everyone but it becomes an issue when the anxiety hinders your life, and is now labeled as an anxiety disorder. There are different types of anxiety disorders labeled by the medical community which include: GAD, social anxiety, panic attacks and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to name a few. Regardless of how anxiety is categorized, the sufferer of PTSD has the same symptoms as the sufferer of social anxiety, just the triggers are different. Some symptoms of anxiety are: chest pains, irregular breathing, sweating and headaches. If you are suffering through anxiety disorders you are always seeking new ways to eliminate your attacks. Here are some alternative options for stress anxiety management. 1 - Aromatherapy -- When it was discovered that different fragrances affect a person’s mood aromatherapy was adopted into the growing list of resources for stress anxiety management. The different aromas used in aromatherapy can be in spray form and sprayed on clothing or used in lotion form and applied to the skin. An older practice is to place the oils in a steaming bowl and breathe in deeply. For the treatment of anxiety disorders one of the best aroma's is jasmine. The sweet smell of the jasmine flower has been used for many centuries to lift the trouble moods of people and has been used as an effective stimulant on the brain waves. 2 - Yoga -- Yoga is one of the best holistic treatments of anxiety disorders because it uses exercise, meditation and breathing; together these activities increases serotonin and brings awareness to the present. There are many videos on the Internet and books you can get from the library to start you on your journey. 3 - Nature Walk -– Not only will a 30 minute walk warm up the body, release serotonin but it will also give you the opportunity to focus on things other than your mood. Take in nature when you are on your walk, watch the trees and how they sway with the breeze, breathe in the fresh air and think about how good it feels, allowing you to turn your focus to other things will break the cycle of anxious thoughts. 4 - Acupuncture -- For centuries Chinese Medicine has focused on the holistic view of the body, mind and spirit to achieve overall health. With the understanding the body is made up of Qi or channels an Acupuncturist will place needles into points of the body which will increase the flow Qi and even release feel good endorphins. 5 - Imagery -- Next time you take a shower imagine the water washing away your worries, imagine them going down the drain. Stay in the shower long enough to wash away all your negative thoughts and feelings vowing to yourself when you step out of the shower you will no longer dwell on those thoughts. This is the power of imagery. It gives you the time you need to dwell then to let go and move on. 6 - Mental Health Programs -- There are a surplus of mental health programs available on the Internet and it can be overwhelming to choose the right program for you; the important thing to keep in mind is your overall expectations. Do you want to cure your anxiety? Or do you want to know how to manage anxiety? Do you need a support program? You may be surprised to find out that many programs offer support programs either via a dedicate phone support system, email system or chat rooms. Regardless these programs are there to assistance you so when you have chosen a program remember to utilize all their available resources.
