Now is the time

Now is a good time to re-assess the important relationships in your life

As another year draws to a close it is timely to reflect about the coming year and how we’d like to it to be. Over the coming weeks, many people will make “new year’s resolutions” that express the desire for positive change in their lives.

New year’s resolutions may focus on increasing satisfaction with our lives as well as becoming more “successful”. Many of us have resolved to eat more healthily and exercise, pay off debts and/or save money, better balance our work and personal life, win a promotion, change jobs or begin a career transition, spend time on a hobby or passion we’ve neglected, leave a relationship, embark on a new relationship, re-energise an existing one or go on that holiday we’ve talked about for years.

And yet to a great extent, it is the nature of our most significant relationships that shape our satisfaction (or otherwise) with the quality of our lives. The relationship with oneself is the most critical; when we like ourselves we are operating well in the world; relationships with partner, children our boss or our parents all seem to work better.
• Where people falter in making those New Year’s resolutions “stick” is often in initiating the action required. Fiona is a workshop leader and life coach with Inspire ACT, who focuses on inspiring people to act on their chosen goals. By assisting people individually or in small groups to develop meaningful goals she finds that she can better inspire them to maintain the momentum on their life path. She runs workshops including Sea Change, Finding New Life & Career Directions and Avert Burnout.
Benefits of Coaching

  • The clarity that comes from having a focused conversation about you.
  • Being listened to by someone who listens with your best interests at heart.
  • Being challenged to go beyond where you would go yourself.
  • Having someone you can explore options with or treat as a confidential “sounding board”.
  • Creating an action plan that suits your life with the support and professional assistance of someone who believes in you.
  • Setting specific goals that you really want. If your goals are not aligned with your core needs and values you may find excuses not to work towards them and may even “self-sabotage”.

Are You Ready for a Real Life Change?

If any of the following points resonate with you – you may be “ready” for coaching!

  • A change in life direction, including a new relationship or a different job or career.
  • More satisfying communication and relationships with others, including loved ones, colleagues and associates.
  • To move from thinking about “problems” to challenges – as well as taking positive, focused action to meet them.
  • Increased fulfillment and meaning in your life.
  • Greater clarity and focus about your goals and what you want in life.
  • Shifting from reacting to events to being proactive in your life.
  • Aligning your livelihood with your chosen direction in life.
  • Setting priorities so that you have time to nurture yourself and others you care for.

Why not give yourself an advantage in making your new year’s resolutions a reality?

Looking ahead to the New Year and how you expect it to unfold, can be tempting to get absorbed in whatever is currently trending, or whatever is “doom-ing and gloom-ing” at the moment. But if, on the contrary, you find you are living someone else’s life via trending, or depressed and distressed by

I have a new cell phone. I didn’t want a new cell phone; I was perfectly happy with my 2020 cell phone, but it wasn’t happy with me. Its connector charging port was ailing. Failing, actually, the service tech told me. And besides, it was an old phone, what did I expect? Old? This to a woman who is more than content, read “thrilled,” to wear outdated fashions just because she likes them. And would willingly keep computers way past their supposed “shelf life.” Sigh. OK, fine,
