The town of Ocho Rios, on Jamaica’s north coast is an amazing and romantic tourist destination ideal for couples and families who want to enjoy a wonderful and relaxing vacation. Also known by the nickname Ochie, Ocho Rios was once a fishing village and now a beautiful resort town with stunning waterfalls, beaches and unbelievable landscapes. Ocho Rios literally means “eight rivers” in Spanish, and it is also called “las chorreras” which means ‘the spouts’ or ‘waterfalls’. The place offers unlimited number of attractions and interesting sights for visitors of all ages and interests. Visitors can indulge in pleasurable activities such as horseback riding, polo, scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, swimming or sunbathing while in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Just west of downtown Ocho Rios is the Dunn’s River Falls. Whether you are on an Ocho Rios vacation or a Caribbean cruise, Dunn’s River Falls is a major attraction. The falls cascade down to approximately 600 feet and flow into the Caribbean Sea. Adjacent to the Dunn’s River Falls is the Dolphin Cove – where visitors can swim with Dolphins and have lots of fun and a thrilling experience. Another popular place to visit is the Fern Gully. The fern gully is a shaded gorge, almost 3 miles in length. The gorge was once a river bed (one of the Ocho Rios’ eight rivers). The river disappeared in an earthquake in the 19th century, and this area was turned into a paved road. You can now walk through this meandering rocky gorge. Shaw Park Botanical Gardens is one of the truly spectacular natural vistas of Ocho Rios. The garden covering about 25 acres of tropical foliage is situated high on a hill overlooking the town and the Caribbean Sea beyond. There’s so much more in Ocho Rios including the Bob Marley Mausoleum, Port Maria, Tower Cloisters, Chukka Cove, the scuba diving sites and the exclusive resorts in Jamaica. If you are planning a visit to Jamaica, don’t forget to include these tourist spots in your itinerary.
