Why is overcoming low self esteem important? Well, we all suffer from low self esteem at one time or another, in one area of our life or another. The problem is that some people suffer from low self esteem all the time, and to the point where it begins to affect everything they do, robbing them of the ability not only to feel successful, but to be happy and even feel relaxed. Experts tell you that the way to overcoming low self esteem is to love yourself. They simply don't tell us how to do that. Forget the lectures, what you need is good advice, right? So okay, here are a few tips that may just help you find a way to improve your self esteem. Look to Someone You Admire Most of us have someone in our lives that we admire and think of as intelligent and insightful. Some of these people enjoy spending time with us. Trust their intelligence and insight. If they see something worthwhile in you, then it surely must be there, as this person is probably too smart to make a mistake. Accepting that you have some good qualities others can see, even if you can't, is the first step towards overcoming low self esteem. Do Something for Others Donate some time to a soup kitchen, homeless shelter or a retirement home. Helping people who are less fortunate than yourself not only will help you view your own life in a better light, but will also make you feel good, because your skills and help are genuinely needed and appreciated. Celebrate Your Accomplishments No Matter How Small Take a moment to celebrate your accomplishments no matter how small they may seem. By taking note of your accomplishments, you will begin to see just how many positive things you accomplish each day. Don't Compare Yourself to Others Comparing ourselves to the others around us is the biggest mistake all of us make. Instead of worrying about how well someone else does, our time is better spent improving our own skills. It is a great feeling when we see ourselves improving. Make a list of your positive points and read it every day As silly as it may sound, we learned to think negatively about ourselves from hearing negative things, and believing them. We can begin to think more positively about ourselves by stating our positive points, until we begin to believe them as well. Do Something You Enjoy Each Day Whether it is watching a movie, relaxing in a hot bath, or spending 10 minutes doing nothing at all, finding something you enjoy will help you feel better about yourself, and the world at large. rnWhile there isn't a magic elixir that is going to make you suddenly start to like yourself better, overcoming low self esteem is certainly an achievable task for everyone, with just a little bit of practice. Following these few simple tips is a great place to start, and it may not be too long before you start to see some great changes in your life, and the way your feel about yourself.
