Goals are what direct us. If you are trying to get to a place in life that makes you happy, setting personal goals will help you to get there. But don't forget that your goals need to remain clear, even if it means reevaluating them on occasion. Take the simplest route in order to get to your goal.

You have a greater shot at being successful if you are clear on what you hope to achieve, so be detail oriented rather than vague when putting it on paper. Also, if you have plans you will feel the motivation that comes with making them, and you will also have a better idea of what needs to be done.

Make your goals more clear by doing the following things:

1. Get to know what your goal really is. Figure out what it is that you want.

* Instead of setting your goal to be "I want to make more money next year", be specific by stating exactly how much you want to make, such as "I want to make $100,000 within the next 12 months".

2. Details shouldn't intimidate you. It is you who chooses what you are looking for. The details are very important, so don't let them scare you off. Do not make goals without detail, like "I want to be successful".

* Decide what you want to do in order to be successful. Where will your new success take you? Will you be able to make more money and later travel the world?

3. Turn one large goal into smaller ones. You may feel that you can't imagine ever reaching your goal because it is so far off in the distance. Make smaller goals to achieve, on your way to the big one. Take each of the smaller goals and make a plan on how you will get there.

* If you are hoping to open your own store, one example of a small goal would be to find out what laws apply to your area and what licenses you need to get for your business.

4. Deadlines are important. In order to make timely progress toward your goals, make sure that you have deadlines to meet. Your deadline should be something that is reachable, even for your smaller goals.

* If you want to continue with the example of opening your own store, allow a week to educate yourself on what laws may apply to you.

5. Pay attention to your progress. Every time you achieve something, or get something done, write it down. You can stay on top of all of your goals by organizing your thoughts and tracing your progress.

6. If all else fails, have a backup plan. You may find that your plan wasn't mapped out correctly or that you would like to change it, or that you have a problem meeting a deadline. If you are having a hard time with one aspect of your goal, you may need an alternate plan. When you hit a snag, when trying to reach your goal, a backup plan will keep you from panicking, saving you time in the long run.

Organization

There are different ways to organize yourself, whether you do so with binders, notes, or plans that you have easy access to. You may also choose to use a computer-based program in order to keep your project on track and stay organized. If you are using a computer, be sure to backup all of your files so that you don't lose them.

Regardless of how you choose to go about setting your personal goals, be detail oriented with small goals that you can achieve on the way to your big goal, and be sure to stay calm when facing a challenge while keeping track of all that you achieve. You can achieve the success that you dream of by following these simple steps.
