Allowing strips of wax to be placed on your skin and letting a stranger rip off sensitive hair doesn't sound like a fun way to spend the evening. In fact, many share the horrors of their first-session, clearly stating that it hurts. Truth be told- it does hurt, and there is no way around it.

There are some who have also claimed that it gets easier in the second session as the body gets used to the pain. However, this is more of a mental thing than it is physical and, if one prepares themselves properly, then chances are that they would not face much issues (or pain) even during their first-waxing session.

"One should always keep the skin hydrated by consuming plenty of water or healthy fluids. With that; one should not ignore the importance of a good moisturiser."

Here's how one should prep up for their first-ever waxing session.

  • Exfoliate Properly:

The night before the waxing session; one should take a nice bath and exfoliate the area that helps the hair stand more pronounced. This also assists reduce the dead skin cells.

It is pivotal to do this the night before the session (and not immediately before the waxing session) to prevent the skin from getting oversensitive. Many make the mistake of bathing before the session resulting in more skin irritations after the waxing session.

  • Use Moisturiser (Lots Of It) Immediately After:

After exfoliating the skin; one needs to moisturise it to re-hydrate the skin. Again it is important to re-hydrate the skin the night before the session. This will help the wax by not allowing it to stick down properly and grab all the hair.

  • Wear Loose Clothing The Day You Hit The Salon:

Before hitting the beauty salon in Darwin; one should leave behind their leggings and skinny jeans. Instead; one should get into something loosely fitted to prevent friction in those areas. And that increases the possibilities of developing any after wax burns.

  • Readying The Skin And Hair:

  • Keeping the waxed area away from sunlight following the 24-hours after the waxing session.
  • Lastly, don't touch the waxed area as it could increase the chances of irritation and infection.
