Preventing a Divorce Before The Words Are Even Spoken

Preventing a divorce can be accomplished well ahead of time if couples recognize the warning signs and take steps to correct the areas in which the relationship has gone wrong instead of waiting until the marriage "blows up" and those dreadful words are spoken, "I want a divorce". All relationships go through rocky patches and it's important for couples to know what to do when those rocky patches arise as they can make or break relationships. It's in these rocky patches that steps can be taken to prevent a divorce from ever being an option. Very few people are naturally good at working through conflict but couples can get better at it by developing a few successful habits. Steps to Prevent a Divorce The first thing couples should do to prevent a divorce is to never say things out of anger to each other. If a heated argument arises stop, take a step back, and cool down. Very damaging things can be said in the heat of the moment and those words can never be taken back. Couples can prevent them from being spoken by cooling down. Another step in preventing a divorce is for a couple to never shut each other out. This means the silent treatment isn't an option. The lines of communication need to be kept open and couples must learn to speak from their hearts honestly and not in a way that seeks to manipulate or control each other. A husband and a wife should communicate about problems before they get out of control instead of "keeping the peace" and holding things inside. Thirdly, couples must always remember to romance each other. Romance is often put on the back burner after the wedding and especially after kids are in the picture. Couples need to treat each other as special and actively look for ways each day to show each other love and respect. Couples that learn to keep romance alive throughout their marriages are happy and have done most of the work of preventing a divorce from ever being an option. Strong marriages are proactive in regards to the marriage relationship and never just take things for granted. Two people come together to share a life of companionship and intimacy and it is very sad when two people become more or less roommates.
