Every one probably knows someone with a back problem -four out of five adults in the u. k. Suffer back pain at some time in their lives), the good news is that you do not have to live with this problem, you can learn to avoid injury by protecting it through exercises and good posture, observe yourself and others during the day and you will understand why so many people suffer with back pain, don’t be one of them!
The spine is composed of 24 bones named vertebrae, these are joined together by discs and arranged in an ‘S’ shape making three curves, when all three curves are balanced, your ears, shoulders, and hips should be in a straight line, with this position your weight will be evenly distributed through the spine, therefore making you back less prone to injury or strain, this position is call ‘neutral spine’ and should be maintained when lifting, moving, sitting lying or standing.

How can we avoid back pain?

Lose weight
I know it is not always that easy, but the more weight that you carry at the abdomen, the more force is exerted on your back.

Reduce stress
Your spine is sensitive to muscular tension, which accumulates throughout the day, so try to relax, and unwind, organise your day so that it is easier on your mind and body.

Start taking some exercise
Regular exercise will help strengthen the back and abdominal muscles, specifically strength training, get advice first! Include some flexibility work as well for your joints.
Be fit, be well.
