There is a lot to be said about the impact technology has had on a person’s health. Technology has increased the life span of people and allows an open wealth of knowledge. However, it has also decreased healthy habits of being an active person. Television and computer games require endless hours of sitting. Children who have hours of inactivity often are obese and can have medical conditions such as ADHD or ADD. Promoting healthy and educational activities is important for children to lead a well-balanced life style. nnSimple changes can be made to promote this healthy lifestyle. When you limit the amount of time your child spends watching TV or playing on the computer, you offer your child more time to find activities outside to pursue. Enrolling your child with a sports team or finding other group activities for him or her to be involved with can help to give your child the opportunity to find fun things to do.nnTeach your child about healthy eating and limit the amount of junk food available in the home. When you do this, you prompt your child to eat more fruits and vegetables. Placing sweets and other junk food on shelves a child can not get to or not even having them in your house can deter a child from eating them. Teaching your child how to cook well-balance meals can give your child an activity he or she can enjoy while spending time you.nnMoney Management for ChildrennnChildren enjoy practicing grown up activities such as paying for the groceries in the grocery store or playing with your credit cards. Encouraging your child to have good personal money management skills can begin at a young age.nnChildren can be taught about saving money by giving them a piggy bank. Piggy banks will allow a child to not only learn how to save money, but can also teach them about counting and about different types of money pieces. For older children, saving money in a bank that will pay interest is a good opportunity to learn about interest and ways to make their money work for them and learn responsible personal money management skills. nnBorrowing money should be taught at an early age. Teach your children that getting into debt is a bad thing by offering an allowance and by making loans on that allowance with an interest rate attached. Let your children see how long it takes to receive an allowance while paying off the loan. More math skills can be gained by using this exercise.nnCharitable donations are something some parents teach their children by giving to a church or other type of organization. Some programs that help children in other countries allow children to donate money and they allow the children to write letters back and forth. This is an excellent way to teach your children about cultures in other countries.nnInvesting in projects or learning how the stock market works for older children can be an interesting experience. Through this avenue of money management, your children will discover and learn how companies develop and manage their businesses.nnAnother important lesson that many children can be taught is taxes. Children should learn how taxes are added onto anything they buy. They should also learn that taxes are taken away from anything they earn. Some families have a tax fund their children have to pay to when they receive their allowance. This tax fund at the end of the year can be used on a family vacation or another family project.nnLearning money management skills can be fun and educational. Why not give the opportunities to your kids? Some changes that may need to be made may require you, the parent, to make changes to your lifestyle as well. However, healthy and educational activities for parents can be fun too.
