As more and more people learn how to harness the power of their thoughts and deliberately create their experiences, I have noticed a few common misconceptions popping up that could cause delays for many. These "myths" aren't always completely false, but are rather misleading in certain ways, so I will be addressing them in a series of articles that will hopefully help people avoid the misdirection that could prevent them from getting where they want to be quickly and easily. Myth #1 - Positive Thoughts Create Prosperity and Abundance Everywhere you turn these days you encounter articles, books, videos, audio seminars and more that proclaim the need to think positively if you want to attract more money into your life. The reason for this is obvious: what you focus on the most, you draw into your life. Focus on good things, attract them. Focus on negative things, attract them. The Law of Attraction works according to the "signal" you send out to the universe, which is a mixture of your overall focus and emotional state. So if you want to attract good things into your life, you need to send out signals of goodness. This is true to a certain degree, but there is much more to it than that. Before I explain what is wrong with this "myth", ask yourself if you can think of any wealthy people that are miserable. Just off the top of my head I can come up with a handful of examples of people who have plenty of money but the rest of their lives are in shambles. They struggle with drug and alcohol addictions, relationship turmoil, and endless drama and struggle. I strongly doubt that these people are thinking good thoughts all day long! Likewise, you can probably think of a few examples of very positive people who are also severely limited financially. They may be very generous, compassionate, kind, loving people, but they still have very little money. These examples defy the assertion that thinking good thoughts will attract good things, don't they? The truth is, positive thoughts are not enough. Positive emotion is not enough. Lurking beneath those qualities is something so powerful that it can make all the difference in whether your manifestations succeed or fail. That something is called: BELIEF Your beliefs are the "mold" that you pour your thoughts and emotions into. Imagine that you wanted to make a plaster cast of a sunflower to paint and hang as a decoration in your home. In order to do that, you would need the material to make the plaster and a mold in the shape of a sunflower that you could pour the plaster into. But what if you didn't have a mold in the shape of a sunflower? What if you only had one in the shape of a daisy? Could you use it and still get a sunflower cast anyway? Not likely! You could experiment with dozens of variations on the plaster, making it thicker, thinner, dye it different colors, or even switch to a completely different mixture like quick-set concrete - but it still wouldn't create a sunflower cast until you used a sunflower-shaped mold. The same thing happens with your beliefs. You can think and speak positively all you want, but if your beliefs are shaped in a way that block abundance and prosperity from coming to you, they will continue to do so until you re-shape them into the form you want - which in this case is wealth and well-being. This is not to say that positive thoughts and emotions are useless. They are definitely a good start. Positive thoughts activate positive emotions, which does begin to affect your overall frequency. But if your thoughts, words, and emotions are saying, "I want more money, send me more money" and your beliefs are saying, "Money is evil, money is wrong, I don't want to be one of those ugly, greedy people" - well, I do not have to tell you what the outcome would be. Your beliefs will win the battle every time. If you have been focusing heavily on changing your thoughts and emotions to be more positive but still not seeing the results you want, consider whether your beliefs may be putting up a blockage. Once you begin targeting those limiting beliefs and changing them - watch out! Results will usually come quickly and easily, and often in very surprising ways!
