Reinventing Mother's Day

This day for my newly formed and combined family is about a search for simplicity within the complications of modern day life: absent mothers and fathers, present mothers and fathers, surrogate parents within loving friends, and even the gift of new grandparenthood.n nA mother only has to be a woman in a biological sense. Biology, however, has its limits and often we are drawn more to nurturers with whom we have no biological link. A mother figure can be, and often is, any man or woman or species who steps in to love and nurture another soul. A soul must come of age and the essence of such a life passage is being nurtured with grace so one may learn how to stand alone.n nTo find our true center, we must learn not to depend on another. Ironically, though, we must indeed be able to depend on another to be held and fed so that we have the confidence to become our true self. We must also feel safe to venture out into the world alone. This sense of safety and confidence is the greatest gift of a mother figure and sometimes that comes from a special presence outside the limits of biology.n nThe greatest gift is to become whole and, with a loving presence such as a mother or mother figure, this can be accomplished with ease.n nHappy Mothers day to all mother's and to all of the men, women, and furry creatures who have stepped in for an absent mother!!! http://tinyurl.com/ou3rue
