A lot of people wonder whether
pickup lines can actually work on girls. Yet when we hear the term "pickup line," we tend to imagine some sleazy dude wearing a gold chain across his hairy chest. He's prowling a bar or nightclub, his beady eyes scanning the room for his next target.
Then he spots his next "conquest" and makes his move...he approaches her and uses some cheesy pick up line that causes her to groan (or throw her drink in his face...)
I'm referring to pick up lines like these...
"I sure hope you know CPR, because you take my breath away."
"Can I borrow a quarter? [What for?] I want to call my mom and tell her I just met the woman of my dreams."
"Hey, can I borrow a map? Because I keep getting lost in your eyes."
"Somebody better call God, cuz he's missing an angel -- so what time do you have to be back in heaven?"
"Sorry lady, but you owe me a drink. [Why?] Because when I looked at you, I dropped mine."
"Hello. Cupid called. He says to tell you that he needs my heart back."
"If I could rearrange the alphabet, I would put U and I together."
"Your legs must be tired because you've been running through my mind all night."
"Is there an airport nearby or is that just my heart taking off?"
"I was so mesmerized by your beauty that I ran into that wall over there...I'm going to need your name and number for insurance purposes."
Now, not all pick up lines are THAT cheesy. I'll give you a few examples of pickup lines that I've successfully used to approach women. The "trick" is to follow them up with something more clever (I'll give you some of these "transitions" in a minute).
"Wouldn't we look cute on a wedding cake together?"
"Can you pull this heart-shaped arrow out of my back, because a little kid with wings just shot me."
"Your daddy must have been a baker, because you've got a nice set of buns."
"You must be a hell of a thief, because you stole my heart from across the room."
(Note: Don't use this pick up line on women who are extremely attractive and KNOW it. This one is effective on a girl who is attractive, but is clearly NOT the best-looking girl in the place.)
And then, there's another category of pick up lines. I call these...
Pick Up Lines That Could Get You Slapped In The Face
You'll want to be extremely cautious when using the following lines when you approach women. A woman with a sense of humor might find them amusing, but you also run the risk of getting hit or having a martini tossed in your face. (Especially if her boyfriend the UFC fighter happens to be standing nearby.) Like I said, be careful...
"Do you know what has 142 teeth and holds back the Incredible Hulk? [What?] My zipper."
"Your daddy must play the trumpet, because he sure made me horny!"
"Is that a keg in your pants? Because I'd love to tap that ass."
The Reality About Using Pick Up Lines To Approach Women
So are pick up lines something to be ridiculed? Would any REAL pick up artist deign to use them? I have authored a few books on picking up girls, which teach many different resourceful approaches to starting conversations with girls. I personally feel that if you're learning how to approach women, using pick up lines is NOT the way to go.
I teach a style of approaching women that I refer to as "going under the radar". What this basically means is that you say (or ask) something clever when you approach women -- a comment or question that catches her by surprise and engages her attention, without signalling your sexual interest. These methods of approaching women feel more casual and natural to both you and her.
I like to
approach the girl and ask her a clever question, one that females are naturally going to have an opinion about.
Opener #1: "Hey, I have to get back to my friends but let me ask you something real quick -- would you freak out if your boyfriend was invited to a bachelor party and you knew there would be strippers at the party? My friend Samantha asked me for my opinion."
Opener #2: "Hi, quick question -- I need your help to settle a debate. How long do you need to be dating someone before you change your status on Facebook from "single" to "in a relationship?" Because my friend Jennifer has been going out with a guy for a month and SHE thinks it's an exclusive thing, but he hasn't changed his "single" status and she's wondering if she should say something..."
These openers are particularly effective because they're based on what I call "relationship grey areas." Men and women tend to have their own ideas about what's allowed in a relationship, and what is unacceptable. Another example: is it "cheating" if a guy hangs out with his ex-girlfriend socially, without telling his current girlfriend?
The bottom line is, a good opener is going to make her WANT to respond. Here's another line I use to approach women, which always seems to get a good reaction:
"Do I look gay? Because this dude was TOTALLY hitting on me in the bathroom a minute ago. Do you think it's because of my shirt?" (Or, "is it the way my butt looks in these jeans?")
I wouldn't classify those as pick up lines. But I'm not saying you should NEVER use a corny pick up line when you approach women.
In the past, I have used some of the pick up lines I gave you above -- and because I was able to transition into a fun conversation, I was able to get the girl into bed that night!
It was because I poked fun at the fact that I had USED a pick up line! After I said it, I followed up with "I know that TOTALLY sounded like a pick up line...but I want to talk to you for a second and I couldn't think of what else to say. My name's Dean..."
Then from that point, I used my usual methods -- I asked a few "strategic" questions to get her in a fun mindset, and sharing information about herself...I used techniques like "Cold Reads" and "Hypotheticals"...and at all times, I stayed in control of the interaction and guided it down the correct path.
Sometimes the world's cheesiest pick up line can be a FUN way to start things off. It's all about knowing how to transition into the conversation, and never taking yourself too seriously.
And hey, this one has worked for me on many occasions...
"You're so beautiful that you made me forget my pickup line."
(Women always find that one cute and funny!)
