rnThere will come a time when all families will need to hire someone to take care of the children once in a while. Finding just the right person for the job can be attained in a number of ways. You can hunt through the “job wanted” ads in your local newspaper, or you can ask friends and family for recommendations. Many babysitters post notices on bulletin boards in public areas, or you can contact a babysitter service in your locality. If this is the first time you have need of someone to care for your children, you might be at a loss as to how to go about locating a sitter who will meet your requirements. While the resources mentioned above may help you, it may be that calling the service that has a listing of potential sitters may be the best way for you to go. Whether you do it by calling, or going to their website, (if there is one) you have a few advantages that you might not have otherwise. First of all, a website will normally provide you with a photo and a personal profile of the sitter. Each person is required to provide information that can help you decide whether or not you wish to contact him or her. Babysitting experience, references, and in most cases, background check results are included in the profile. Whether the person has any other credentials (such as first aid certification) will also be available. If you are calling a service, you will have to rely on spoken information, and you will not be able to view any candidate before meeting them. These services normally have a listing of potential sitters who are located in your area, making it easier for you to interview or contact them. Even though there is a profile and information posted, you should always conduct a face-to-face interview or two. This is an excellent way to determine whether the sitter is someone you are going to feel comfortable with. If you have any misgivings, always go with your instincts as a parent, and continue your search. Services such as this have new profiles added regularly, making it easier for you to locate the person suited for your needs. Calling the service means that you have to be more cautious than you would be any other time. Interviews and meetings can and should be scheduled for each potential candidate. The babysitter should be willing to provide you with copies of any pertinent records, references, and contact information. Failure or reluctance to do so should raise a definite red flag, and you have the option of reporting the person to the service. You must be extremely careful when it comes to the safety of your children and who may be looking after them. Using a babysitter service will provide you with peace of mind.
